For all those saying Tomlin should be fired, who would be better?

Its not about who could be better it's about how bad will you let it get under Tomlin.

It's about bring in new fresh ideas to a predictable, stale team.

Hasn't there been several of the exact same threads in the past? I think the OP just needs to go back and look at those. This question is ridiculous. The OP insinuates that there are no other coaches in the entire NFL, college, anywhere that could possibly not have us win a playoff game for a decade. You know what, you're probably right. Find the young, rising coordinator. Jonathan Gannon is going to start making HC interview lists.

I'm open to the idea of Byron Leftwhich, Eric Bienemy, or some young DC that nobody is talking about. Surely nobody thought that in week 8 of the 2006 season that a DC from the Vikings could be as potentially good as Bill Cowher.

i would say anyone right now who is bringing a new OC, would be an upgrade from Tomlin and Canada.

As long as Tomlin has hitched his wagon to Canada, he needs to go.

Literally anyone on this message board could manage the game clock better. I mean, grab a cashier from Giant Eagle.

That can be fixed for minimum wage. Wtf.

When the Steelers were looking for a head coach to replace Cowher in 2006, I was busy with career and family, and had no suggestions. Hadn't heard of Mike Tomlin.

When the Steelers were looking for a head coach in 1992, I was busy 'studying for exams' in college, and had no suggestions. Had never heard of Bill Cowher.

When the Steelers were looking for a head coach in '69, I wasn't born yet and couldn't be reached for suggestions. Knew nothing of a Charles Henry Noll.

Point is there are quality coaching candidates out there. The people paid to keep an eye on such things will know who's on the short list and why when the time comes.

Well, Since we all have to do their jobs now I guess we are all qualified. Sign me up. Soon Cashiers will be a thing of the past but MT will still probably be our HC.

Go into the interview process without pre-concevied notions. Locate and invite your top 6 candidates to interview. Cut that number down to 3 and invite those 3 for a 2nd interview. Eliminate 1 and invite the 2 remaining to interview a 3rd time. Select the coach who you feel has the most to offer.

The names aren't important. The process is.

During the middle of the season the candidate pool will be limited, so if you fire Tomlin now the best bet is to name Flores interim HC for the remainder of 2022 and give him the rest of the season to audition. Then you start a search.

If we fire Tomlin mid-season, candidates will have the Steelers job on their radar before “black Monday.”

Agree on both counts. I highly doubt the Steelers fire Tomlin in either case. But I'm sticking with my hunch from a few weeks ago that Tomlin resigns. His post-game pressers are getting snippier and snippier. Dude isn't having fun right now. And frankly, if he doesn't have an open mind on selecting the next OC, I imagine 2023 is going to look a lot like 2021 and 2022.

No chance Tomlin gets fired mid-season.

Yup and they won't fire Tomlin. Everyone around him could be in jeopardy but I even doubt anything will be done to coaches. Canada in my estimation needs to go and go quickly.

Sean Peyton. I also like Bienemy and Leftwich. We need an offensive minded coach, someone who will help Pickett develop and reach his full potential, whatever that is. At this point, I don't trust Tomlin with Picket at all.
