Anyone can say, well, Bruce didn't thrown the pics or he didn't fumble the ball, etc., etc.

The problem Bruce has is this. He has a gameplan. It usually works for the first scripted drive. It even did tonight, and if we hadn't thrown a pic we would have been leading at halftime. Okay, so where is the issue again. Oh yeah. Once the D throws something that works at the OC, he never changes what he is doing. You will see the same play called in the 3rd quarter you saw called in the first quarter and the fourth quarter. And they didn't work in any of them. He never changes. He is determined that it will eventually work. San Francisco found a coverage that worked, and didn't leave it all night. You haven't seen man, then cover 2, then cover 3. You have seen the same D over and over and over, because it has worked. BA cannot adjust to save his life.

I couldn't agree more. Our offense is his responsibility. Time and time again it fails.

you are an awful troll. But if anyone were to hear you out, if St Peter asked you to get into Heaven. "Do you believe Bruce Arians calls great games for the steelers?". You can honestly say yes?

It's their job to motivate these guys, they haven't done that all season. The coaching this season, with the talent present on this team, has been downright embarrassing.

    Poor clock management,

Terrible Offense (predictable plays, no situational play calling, no taking advantage of personnel groupings)

    Non existent half time adjustments

One game all season where we actually prepared for your opponent (patriots)

Yes, totally agree. For the most part our defense played very well (a few miscues by Timmons in pass defense), but execution on offense was pretty bad, and the coaches really didn't help out. BA isn't the best, or maybe even average, but this loss falls upon more shoulders than his.

Funny, because earlier in this thread he was criticized for changing what was working and getting away from the quick throws. People criticize Arians simply by saying that he should have done the opposite of what he did.

Agree with this. Coupled with lack of execution and it's a recipe for disaster. I'll be happy when BA finally leaves this team. Red zone scoring and situational play-calling have always been his bane.

I agree with this statement, but thats not where it ends. The players are still responsible for making plays work.

What exactly did he do? I am serious here what did he do? His job is not to make Ben feel like a great leader, his job is not to make sure Ben feels all warm and fuzzy, his job is not to overlook mistakes and just go well that is the way he plays so you take the good with the bad. His job is to prepare his team to WIN football games. When it becomes obvious that your QB is hobbled and can't execute the offense then you should pull him and keep your team in the game. I swear if some says but Ben gives them the best chance to win I am going to scream because when you have limited mobility and less than half your playbook that isn't setting you up for success. Play- action could have torn this Niners defense apart but since Ben couldn't make it work they didn't go with it. So after a big play on first down(run or pass it didn't matter) they came right back with shotgun handoffs that the Niners had stacked against. Put the guy in who can make a play under center and force the niners to defend the whole field instead of limiting yourself. Arains job is to win not be Ben's enabler, I am so sick of this garbage.

100% correct. It won't get worse, that's for sure. With Ben around there will always be an element of sandlot football with this offense. But we can do better so I'd like to see us try.

With the way some of you are ready to throw everyone out, I am sure glad that you are not in control of front office. I have agreed for awhile that BA needs to go right now, but to call for Tomlin to go also is just short sighted. Do they have to make the Super Bowl every year to not get fired or what? I think the record the last few years should say a little something.

One of the major things I have always loved about the Steelers is their loyalty to their coaches. When other teams seem to change coaches every other years the Steelers have not had knee jerk reactions to one so so year. This in my opinion leads the the team being competitive year after year.

Do you know how brutal a real "tar and feathering" is? Most victims die agonizing deaths from it.

I wouldn't go that far with BA. I just want him gone.

But it's too good for Goodell. ;)

It's not Arians job to pull Ben. Thats on Tomlin.

Look, Im not saying that Arians is a great OC, but he's not bad and certainly doesn't deserve the weekly "Fire Arains" threads.

Instead of knee jerk reacting, how about looking at the facts.

    1) Ben is playing on one leg which takes away his strength (mobility), takes him out of his comfort zone, limits his practice time, and shortens the playbook.
    2) They played a very good defense (#5 defense in the NFL, and still put up over 400 yards of offense)
and most overlooked, but the most important fact of all:
    3) Started each drive on average of their own 15 yard line. This was the worst average starting field position in an NFL game in nearly 10 years.

In a nut shell, this means that on average, the Steelers would have to drive the ball almost 60 yards just to get the chance to kick a FG...against the #5 defense with a hobbled and limited QB. It was a recipe for disaster.

You give me a top 5 defense and an average starting field position of your own 15 yard line and I like my chances against ANYONE. Even Brady and Manning.

You mean those bums who are the #1 defense against the rush and haven't allowed a rushing TD all year LOL !!!! The biggest plays we had last night came out of the passing game and like so many on here cried for them to do the Steelers kept Ben in shotgun as much as possible in order to protect him and I saw them attempt more short passing and slant routes last night than what's been the norm for them. All that aside I still expected to see the usual "Blame it all on Bruce" post this morning LOL !!

What makes me laugh is that IF Ben does not throw the picks - and IF he does not fumble deep in their own territory, B.A.'s gameplan works in this particular situation. With the poor field position the Steelers had all game, they actually moved the ball very well considering they had a one-legged quarterback.

The most frustrating thing for me in this game was the failure of the DEFENSE. Sure, they played alright most of the game, but think about it. The Steelers score on a 51-yard field goal to bring it to 6-3. This was a potentially momentum-shifting score. It was a long, improbably field goal and it broke the ice for the Steelers and put them on the board. The kick-coverage had pinned SF deep on the kickoff. Instead of coming out fired up and ready to hold them to a 3-and-out or force a turnover, the defense came out vanilla and allow a scoring drive. When the 49ers scored on that drive, I texted my brother that the game was over. We may have one of the top defenses in the league, but their failure at inopportune times is very disappointing.

That said, I'm still fired up for January football and I would not want to be a Steelers opponent from here on out. The Lambs will be facing an angry Harrison on Saturday and we'll go into week 17 with some chance at a division title. They got this performance out of the way and now it's time to become road-warriors and show up when it matters.

:herewego: Look we can sit here and argue amongst ourselves until we are blue in the face. The fact of the matter is we are STEELER NATION, why do we have to settle for mediocrity? which is what this offense is and has been for 5+ years. Look is BA the worst OC, maybe not, but is he one of the best, far from it. He's had more than ample time to bring this offense to an elite level and we have yet to reach that point. We have all the talent in the world on offense but things happen fast in the NFL, so we don't have any more time to waste. (Must read in William Wallaces' voice) " We can keep BA and we may live ,but do you wan't to be sitting on your couch or chair many years from now wallowing in mediocrity or would you trade all the days from this day til' that for one chance, just one chance at FREEDOM! from this IDIOT who has kept us down for far too long." Bleed, that was a great quote. I love it. We must use this quote as a motto to get rid of Bruce Arians.

Do I need to post the stats again?? Total yardage: Steelers. First downs: Steelers. Time of Possession: Steelers. Third down efficiency: Steelers. Yards per rush: Steelers. Yards per PLAY: Steelers.

The stats do not lie - and while I don't care of B.A. stays or goes - based on the game plan in this one game, B.A. was successful. He planned the right scheme. He called the right plays. The Steelers moved the ball all night long from TERRIBLE field position to give themselves a chance to score. What happens? TURNOVER. TURNOVER. TURNOVER. From the offensive standpoint, this loss is on Ben. From the defensive standpoint, the one EPIC FAIL of the defense to hold the 49ers after the 51-yard field goal was extremely disappointing.

There are some (many) WINS that the Steelers have had that give a better reason to fire B.A. than this one loss. He planned and called the game very well. The players failed on the field - in particular - BEN. Where's the outrage and the calls to cut him??!

If mediocrity is 2 super bowl appearances in 5 and working on the 3rd straight year of a top 10 offense (with Ben @ QB), then sign me up for mediocrity.

Is the offense perfect? No. They obviously have trouble scoring points and finishing drives, but it moves the ball well other wise. This O needs a tweak, not a make over.

But this loss pointed out Arians' deficiencies more than others, not necessarily because of what the Steelers' offense did, but because of what the 49ers' offense did. The 49ers demonstrated what gameplanning is all about, what having an identity is all about, what execution is all about. Why didn't Alex Smith throw any picks? Kind of hard to pick off passes when the receivers are wide open. If Ben is throwing to open receivers, he doesn't throw picks. There is NO excuse for this offense to not look like a well-oiled machine EVERY Sunday, bad o-line or not. We have the weapons in the receiver corps. A good offense creates mismatches. A good offense puts pressure on the defense to figure out who has who. A good offense dictates the game. When do any of these things happen?
