They adjusted the game as well. I did not see the try harder offense.

He wasn't great, but he allowed the D to get rest, unlike last year.

They could do something by the trade deadline.

Most of us, and by most I mean all of us just wanted better QB play than last year. The offense still couldn't get the ball in the end zone but it's hard to argue that the QB play wasn't better.
Seems to me that if you were disappointed with Fields today, you had your expectations set too high for the first game.

Good sign for Fields improving as the game went on. He was the opposite in Chicago. Folded like a cheap tent in 4th quarter.

He played well enough. I was not happy about the center to QB exchanges though. Clutsy. 17/23 and a 91.9 rating, 156 yards passing, 57 yards rushing.

It was clear early that Fields was pressing and trying to force plays rather than just playing. He knows this is a huge chance for him to show his value and maybe even show he deserves the starting spot. I thought he played decently well. Better than anything we've seen in a while. I really want to see Wilson get his shot back there.

Fields will be better vs Broncos. I like Smith at OC better than Canada...but some of the play calling was bad especially on 1st down.

Imagine paying all that money to Watson or Dak Prescott and neither one of them looking good. Burrow didn't look good either.

I keep seeing He didn't melt down like in Chicago. They didn't call a game for Him like in Chicago. Chicago traded up for him, and spent real money on Him ....they were looking for a #1 Qb they couldn't afford to coddle him in His 3rd season. The Steelers spent a 6 round on him, and He's the backup.....of course We called the game the way we did. Like for a backup.

I think he was more than fine. I really think that Smith needs to look to do a few more things with Fields in.... When we spread it out 5 wide on 3rd down was brilliant, since it was a simple body check for Fields to determine a quick throw or a run. The roll out to the left that hit Freiermuth is perfect for him as well. Easy throw if its open, option to run if not. I'd love to see a bit more of each if Fields is playing in the future.

He throws a great go ball as well. There is definitely something there with him. Still some growth needed, but an offense built to his strengths with some play makers on it could be pretty good for us.

There is no hate. Justin Fields is probably a great guy., and I will root for him as long as He wears the Black, and Gold, but just like with Pickett.....I'm not blind. You don't keep calling 1/3 of a field reads for a Qb you have a lot of faith in....., and the D knew this.

It was his first game with a new team who themselves had a new offensive coordinator. I'm sure that played into how the game was called. I doubt the game would have been called much differently had Wilson started instead of Fields

He struggles when playing under center. That is a serious problem in a Smith offense that wants to use a lot of play action.

If you look around the league there was some awful QB play today. Cousins was horrid, Levis was terrible, Daniel Jones was atrocious, Watson was awful today for the Browns and Bryce Young looked like he had never played football before today. Fields wasn't great but he was in the middle of the pack today as far as QB play goes. With our defense and kicking game average QB play will win a lot of football games.

Meh, close your eyes, Pickett played these sort of games under Canada, where he pulled the game out. Fields isn't the answer!!

Exactly. Nice comment. Fields and Wilson are serviceable options for this season and will provide better QB play than Pickett. I don't think either is a long-term option.

Paying 60+ million for Watson or Prescott, neither good enough to win a Superbowl, is a complete waste and prevents stacking the rest of the team.

Until you find the next long-term QB in the draft, cheaper serviceable ones with a stacked roster is the way.
