Field Goal Mike

    Can someone explain Coach Tomlin's propensity to attempt field goals when down 21+ points? I'm not just talking about the Bills game but I've noticed this many other times in past years.

    Is kicking a FG when you're down 31-3 merely ceremonial? Trying to "score" without trying to win?

    Just hoping for some insight on why Field Goal Mike does this so often...

    He was going to go for it until the penalty. Going for it on 4th and 10 is one thing, but on 4th and 15 that's just asking for failure. He had no real choice but to go for the 3 unfortunately, and I'm sure he wasn't too happy about it. I think it's way worse when he punts on 4th down being down two scores late in the 4th quarter. Those were games we actually had a chance to win if we get a 1st down and score.
