Under Cowher, when O'Donnell (1995) or Kordell (1997 and 2001) had atrocious playoffs performances, the games were still close at the end and it was all against super bowl winning team... If Tomlin would have been the steelers head coach in his games with his pathetic defense and running game, his steelers team would have lost by 20-30 points

Little off the mark there....I don't believe Ben snapped the ball over His head all the way into the endzone.

Dude....Cam Newton couldn't recover a fumble right in front of Him , but everyone wanted Ben to recover a snap 10 yards behind Him???
Put that $hit on the center.

I know it was a bad snap, I do blame Ben for throwing 4 interceptions though, it's not like he was facing the 1985 Chicago Bears defense .

It was a soft zone defense....The worst possible gameplan vs Brady

I mean,I just said this that their gameplan on defense was to play a very soft zone defense against Brady even if it never work before for the steelers and other teams....It was just a horrible idea. It's like Tomlin didn't try to win this game, since it had no chance of working

Coaches don’t have any responsibility it’s all the players. Why even have coaches and why the hell do they get paid millions of dollars? They have 0 affect on the outcome of a game!!! Ludicrous

Thats an impressive list. All of those coaches combined have the same number of Superbowl wins as Tomlin.

Did you think that the Steelers should have manned up on the Pats all day with rookie Artie Burns and Ross Cockrell (a true zone-only corner if there ever was one) on the outside, and an aging Willie Gay in the nickel? With safeties like Mike Mitchell, Sean Davis and Robert Golden? Man coverage was only successful vs. Brady if the defenders could actually cover man to man. The team had failed to put together a defensive roster that could match up with New England. None of those guys were effective in a man scheme, and the safeties were mediocre in any scheme.

What we tried to execute for a game plan was to shorten the game with a heavy dose of Bell to minimize chances for Brady, but Bell got knocked out of the game early and the rest of the offense wasn’t up to the task. The defensive plan was to play zone to prevent the big play, and try to harass Brady with a variety of pressures. Our guys on the defensive front failed to win their 1v1 matchups, and the back end (especially the safeties) made several execution blunders. If you want to blame the coaches for the poor execution by mediocre safeties, I can partially agree. I think coaching prep always plays a role in game day execution. But as for game plan, running a lot of man coverage with the players we had wasn’t going to improve anything. We simply didn’t have the guys to do that.

LoL....do notice....how much more players get paid than coaches.
Yes both matter, but follow the money.

Kyle Shanahan you will have to kick out of the top 5 or 10 coaches until Trey Lance becomes a Super Star QB. If that never happens you may have to adjust your evaluation of Kyle.

Kyle Shanahan gave up 1st round 2021, 1st round 2022, 1st round 2023, and a 3rd round 2022 pick to get Trey Lance. The effects of this horrible trade on missing out on 3 1st rounds picks have not caught up to the 49ers yet; but soon will as current players continue to age, and are not replaced with young 1st round picks like they would have been.

You are kidding right? You don't think Kyle Shanahan had total control over that trade? Kyle is 100% to blame for the Trey Lance disaster.

You think Kyle walked in the door and John Lynch was hey Kyle by the way, I just traded away the next 3 years of 1st round draft picks last night while you were out. SUCKS TO BE YOU!!!

I mean the guy throwing the ball did have 4 picks and other turnovers in those games, but he's a future HoF QB.

Tomlin's win was with Cowher's players.... so it doesn't count.

Same thing with Gruden.... won with Dungy's players.

This... and I'd add Sean Payton and Harbaugh to the list. The 2012 run was impressive with Flacco. Ravens beat Broncos with Manning and Patriots with Brady. Tomlin never came close to that.

Daboll will end up better than Tomlin, also.
