NFL draft day 1. With the 20th pick what position or who do you think we ought to take? It might belong in the draft forum but it’s Steelers related so here we go.

    Best Available OL/DL/ILB/CB/S

My Pick would be Fashanu T from Penn St. and if he is gone Arnold CB from Bama or Fautanu OL Washington

Center is my first concern. They do not need to reach or trade up for a player though.

It is very unlikely that Arnold will make it to them, but I could see them going with the best corner or tackle in the first round, then center in the second. Maybe trade down and take Jackson Powers-Johnson late in the first round. This assumes some team wants to trade up to 20.

Based on the last 3 years centers are not highly drafted

Even the Remington award winner went in the 5th round

More bang for the buck in the first for positions other than center

A good center can be found in 2-3

thanks. It’s probably obvious I don’t follow college football much. I just know a top notch center is a must for the Steelers in the draft. We’ve had some great ones and it’s past time we get back to that quality type player.

Trust me I don’t know college football. I only stumbled on this when I was looking at how many DBs and WRs are drafted each year

Type 2023 nfl draft for example and wiki gives the numbers by position

No doubt. In my opinion we've had more excellent centers than almost any other team and would be great to get another. Would love to see us get another really good edge rusher so if watt goes down again we still got a disruptor on the field.

If you want one of the top 2 center they need to trade down. The 2 best centers are Jackson Powers-Johnson and Sedrick Van Pran. I think with the younger Johnson you would need Mason Cole to stick around another year to be able to ease Johnson into the starting lineup.

Both should not be available at 54. The wild card is if some team bites on Graham Barton trying to sell himself as the top center, maybe Johnson and Van Pran are there at 51.

Georgia Tackle in the 1st and Center in the 2nd? What would Broderick Jones think of adding Mims and Van Pran to the team in 2024?

The thing I don't like seeing is a CB in the 1st. If you are drafting a CB in the 1st round, you are wanting a shutdown CB who can go man/man with that teams top WR every play. News Flash, that position is already taken. Had the same problem last year, when I would see the Steelers drafting an edge in the 1st round. WHY!!!

    CB or T rd 1
    Center rd 2
CB DT Tackle rd 3 (pending what we do rd 1)

If we hit on all 3 we will start having a serious core roster.

Obviously, everything depends on how the board falls. 3 months before draft day though, I take Kamren Kinchens, Safety from Miami.

Question: With the new NIL rules that allow players to have agents, can College players go back to play in college after they get drafted?

I think the old rule was that when they hired an agent and declared for the NFL Draft, they were considered pros and could never go back to playing college football again. Has this changed in anyway with the NIL deals?

TBH, Corner in the first wouldn't be awful at all. I get you normally want a shut down CB if you're taking a guy in the first, and that we already have Porter Jr. on the team.... but who else is playing corner next year? Peterson is past his prime, I can't imagine we want Wallace or Sullivan around, and Trice/Rush are developmental prospects that cant be counted on pre-camp to be week 1 starters. We really don't have a slot CB at all.

You need multiple good corners in today's game. A first round pick at the position wouldn't be a waste at all. Having 2 really good corners can only be a good thing for the defense.
