Look up the word "irony" in the dictionary and you'll see a picture of Steve Pearce. Here's a career marginal .250 player who couldn't make the cut with the Pirates during their 20+ year non-winning seasons and now at 35 just wins the WS MVP award surrounded by the highest paid players in the history of the game. During his 5 years with the Pirates at the beginning of his career, Pearce was nearly a "Mendoza" Level batter, where he wore out a path bouncing back and forth to the minors. In the other dugout there was ex Pirate David Freese who collected 2 of the Dodgers 3 measly hits in the WS finale, the Dodgers having the second largest payroll in MLB. Baseball is ugly with these unlimited runaway payrolls. Almost as ugly as the runaway yellow hanky barrage in the NFL.
