    i second that

most likely, we ink Russ to a 3 yr deal. ~$30 mil a year, is my guess

it is what it is -
unless there is a severe crash and burn here in the end.

He wants to play and I am guessing he likes it here and i think Mike and Khan like him. they will build around him. they will find him a WR or 2 and build that OLINE. there will be some contract restructure on the D to pay for him.

Meh. I don’t like this idea, but then many of us thought Fields and Wilson were not great signings either, so what do we know?
I bet they sign Wilson to a 1 or 2 year deal, and draft whoever looks like a likely QB, if a worthy one is available when they draft.

It is still too early to determine what we want to do with Russ. He's played 4 games and he's been wildly inconsistent. Had a couple of big games against the NY teams, but has also struggled against Washington and Baltimore and is the worst red zone QB in the league... He still has some time to go before we make any determinations as to whether or not we want him quarterbacking our team for the next couple years.

As for Jones, as a back up... I don't see a problem with it. Someone who has had some ups and downs in a bad organization probably has a shot at being a pretty good back up plan at QB. He's at least someone that you'd think could win a couple games if called upon with a really good team around him. I wouldn't be against it, but I also wouldn't want him to be the QB of the future. I'd think the odds of us sticking with Russ or Fields are way higher than turning the reigns over to Danny Dimes as a potential starter.

Or Darnold 2.0... We wont know until he gets to play somewhere else, but I am about as close to 100% certain as I can be that the "somewhere else" isn't in Pittsburgh.

I wish we would get lucky, like a good veteran QB, not too old, became suddenly available because he wanted out of the loser organization he is playing for.

    For example: Kyler Murray, etc.

Tomlin has street cred with the players in the NFL. That plus our tradition of being competitive makes us a natural destination if such a situation happened.

i agree it is too early.

that is just my bet, at this point.

    MikeyT likes his veterans.

IF Wilson gets us a playoff win, he will get a nice 3 yr deal. AND we will FIND his a solid #2 AND they will pay Pickens. OLINE is still cheap and they will restructure some on defense to pay for it.

Not sure Jones will take a back up deal. Fields would be WISE to stay here, but i bet he won't. And I would not care much. He is not going to ever bet all that.

Are we REALLY going to go ALL IN on the QB FA frenzy next year? I doubt it......

As long as Jones is a backup for '25 and Giants are footing the bill..... I'm OK with it. Depending on what happens in subsequent games... either Wilson or Fields need to be resigned in '25. One or the other. The QB draft class blows chunks in '25... so Steelers will have to roll with FA QBs until '26-'27 when they can draft one.

Jones has a lot of experience... and he could pull a Baker Mayfield and turn out to be good in the right system with weapons and good O line around him.

I had seen a similar article, but it suggested that Jones could end up here in 2025 as Wilson’s backup. I’m a firm “no” to Jones as a starter or even bridge starter, but as a clear backup at backup pay I’m more of a “maybe.”

MSM links us to everyone as a possible signing.
Sometimes they forget to add the 'h'

That first year under Dabol, Danny Dimes looked like a Josh Allen clone.
But it all crashed and Danny Dimes started looking more like Ryan Leaf.
The Giants are mismanaged but Danny's issues are his own.
I don't know if he can pull off a Sam Darnold.... Someone will sign him or even trade for him.. not me if I was anyone's GM.

There isn't anything in FA anyways. Two of the top three names are current Steelers. Sam Darnold is the other. Not sure Jones is going to get a starting offer. The Giants stuck with him for a long time and his perception around the league is probably at an all time low. He will have to go the Darnold route if he wants another shot. Back up for a year or two and try to find an opportunity elsewhere when he's got a chance.

Idk what Fields is going to get. I think he showed enough for a team to want to give him a shot, but having spent time in Chicago he is going to have to make sure it is the right opportunity. I honestly think he would be a really good option for a team like us (as in great defense, don't turn it over, score TD's in the red zone). So he will have to find an organization that operates in a similar manner.

Wilson has brought the deep ball back to Pittsburgh, but after the last couple of weeks, I am starting to worry that it is all he has left in the tank. If that gets taken away, the offense is going to look like it did against Baltimore a lot more often. Hopefully he can get back on track the next 3 weeks, as these Browns and Bengals games are going to be super important for us. I think Wilson will have to perform a lot closer to the NYJ and NYG games than he has the Washington and Baltimore games if he wants another contract. This team won 10 games with Pickett at QB, so we've proven that we can win in spite of the QB. This is the best version of Wilson we're going to get, and we have to be certain that he has more in the tank before we give a 36 year old guy a multi-year contract.

I don't know if people know this , but there is more to playing football than just the redzone. Ben, and Terry Bradshaw won many games as Steelers Qb, and they were not always great every year in the redzone....., or has everyone forgotten this.

You're correct, but not scoring TD's in the redzone is highly correlated to NOT winning important games in December and January and February. If you're banking on Senor Studly Boswell every week, eventually that will come back to bite you too.

If you have a top 3 defense and good special teams, yes, being below average in RZ can be overcome, but your margin for error is very thin. Lose the turnover battle and probably lose the game.

I still can't shake the fact Tomlin would tell Todd Haley how many points the offense would need to score to win the game. If I was HC, I'd tell the OC, just as many as you can hang on them EVERY week. I'll take the foot off the gas in the 4th if need be.

Like I said....I would like to see the hands of the people that seen C. Patterson (our own RB/Wr) take out Pickens on one of the redzone trips. Knocked Pickens down, and took them both out of the play.
Not many people did. I think I was the only person who mentioned it during the game....Yet the same people will say....why are we having trouble with the redzone. Sometimes things don't work, sometimes players watch a ball go right over their heads(MT Washington), and sometimes the Defense guess right, or sometimes the D gets away with mugging the Wr(like on Pickens on the fade)
We just took two of the best teams in the NFL , two of the Highest scoring teams in the NFL, and beat them both, and people are trying to pick holes in it.

People you can score from other spots in the field than just the redzone. Proof. 1st 6 games we had a higher redzone percentage, but a lower overall points per game. Next 4 games we had a lower redzone percentage, but higher points per game.
