Exactly, it’s low risk and potentially high reward, we know Ebron has ability. I can’t see why anybody would complain about this move at that money.

Kept Vannet and leave well enough alone. Vannett was very servicible. Its the OC that doesn't know what he is doing. Canada will fix this if he is allowed too.

My own theory is that they didn’t want to throw over the middle last season with two inexperienced QB’s, those balls are much more likely to be intercepted and they just didn’t trust Mason and Duck, probably with good reason. That’s why TE’s weren’t involved as much in the passing game as we all would have liked. JMO

Vannett did very little in Seattle and even less in Pitt (possibly didn’t get the chance in fairness), he is not a redzone threat and looked like a backup / rotational player to me. Perhaps you saw something different and that’s fine.

Lets see what they plan to do with Ebron, I think we will see him involved out wide, in short yardage and in redzone situations a lot, none of which Vannett can do nearly as well for roughly the same money.

Imagine McDonald and Ebron out there on third and goal along with a physical freak like Juju, the opposing DC is going to have a very serious issue with matchups.

I was gonna say that if they use him as a te/wr they may have something. Switzer might not make it now.

    They usually keep 5?

    JuJu

    Washington

    Those guys are locks.

Cain probably played himself onto the roster. If they draft 1, that could cost Switzer. Or maybe Cain will be the odd man out if Ben really wants Switzer on the team. Or maybe they carry 6.

I am going to have to agree to disagree with you. I think Ebron is way overated and a quitter.
Remember we had 2 inexperienced QB's throwing to all these receivers, and OC that has no clue what he is doing.

I don’t think anybody is saying he is the second coming of Heath Miller, he may only be there a year or two. I think he does tick some boxes though and he is cheap, with no real risk in it the way the deal is structured. I’m just not seeing the issue tbh.

Will agree to disagree like you say. It’s interesting to hear another view as I think most fans are happy he is on board.

I just saw on the news his reason for signing was because of Ben. Hope he actually gets to play in a real game with Ben.

OK, I'll bite, why wouldn't he get to play in a "real game" with Ben, if he's now our starting TE?

I guess I don't see where some think Vannett is comparable to Ebron? Van got 2 year 5.7 and EE got 2 at 12. So if we wanted Van we were going to pay more than 5.7 a year and is that worth it for half of EE's production? When you look at career production what say's Vannett can ever have a year like EE had in 2018? I am by no means saying EE can do that again I am just asking why so many think Van should have been kept? In 4 years with the Seahawks he had 48 rec, 463 yds and 4 td's 3 in one year. He played with one of the best QB's in football and was on a team always looking for TE help. He couldn't shine there what makes people think he could have been good here, when EE has proven to do it before?

People can say what they want about Fitch and our back up QB's last season. Yeah they were bad but when Van had a good QB and OC and HC he didn't shine. I like this move more and more as I am worried Ben is not 100% and the days of long ball may be over.....THAT IS JUST MY OPINION. With that said Ben has shown what he can do with a good TE 2 years ago with Vance. Now we have a guy who will be a big redzone target for him and a proven one. When was the last time we had a guy this size as a redzone target......Plex? That worked out pretty good for us no? I have my worries and questions about EE but my opinion I am taking him over Vannett 100 out of 100 times.

Looks like we agree on something. Vannett just isn't good. I don't understand anybody wanting him over Ebron.

The Steelers really blew it with that trade. They gave away a fifth-round pick for nothing. I wrote at the time that they should have picked up Luke Willson, who had been cut by the Raiders in preseason. He was still unemployed and he is at least as good as Vannett. In fact, the Seahawks signed him the same week they traded Vannett to the Steelers. The front office blew it badly on that one.
