Sitting here at 2:50 am at my midnight to noon job of sitting there and waiting for something to break my mind tends to wander normally to the steelers. Tonight I got to hinking about what in the hell DL was going to do this year. 3 capable nose tackles 2 of which are athletic 4 des a huge array of lbers inside and out 4 capable cbs and troy and clark behind all that. It should be really iknteresting to see what he comes up with. Not only does he have a bunch of guys but a bunch of different styles. Depending on the situation he could really cuase mass confsion this year. Curtis brown blitzing from the nickel could force a lot of mistakes. Could we see some hybrid defenses kind of lik the ravens will run at times. I don't know but to me this defense is looking really deep. The safety posistion worries me a bit but unlike most I like mundy and think he has done a good job when called upon.

I agree with most of your post, but I think you're getting ahead of yourself with "4 capable CBs." That's an enormous position where we can't afford to have weakness. We have 1 proven capable CB, 1 that has some potential but never played well enough to start and was overrated for his performance as the #3 last year, 1 that is full of potential but has only played like 20 plays of defense in the NFL, and 1 that is full of potential and has not even played 1 play of defense in the NFL. It's quite possible that we'll have an awesome CB squad, if 2 or all 3 of those guys pan out. I can see why you're excited, but those are definitely still eggs, not chickens. It's just as possible that we look ugly there in 2012.

That, and ILB are my only worries on defense.

potential, potential, potential. i see two NT's that have never played a full season ,yet. DE's that have never played a full season ,yet. CB's,well we know that situation. safeties, we hope stay healthy. i see young hungry talent, ready to be given their shots. a mix of aging vets that have injury concerns. whats not to be optomistic about?

i think we are actually in pretty decent shape at ilb. timmons is a stud. foote, well, he's foote, but he can teach these guys something. sly has seen enough of this defense now that it shouldn't be a suprise to him. it's just a matter of if he has enough talent to play the spot. then we have a kid that has all the potential to allow you to do different things from the inside spot. how much johnson is used inside is yet to be determined. he will have to learn alot of things here in a short amount of time. we also have some other young talent i expect will hang around if they showup at camp. so, i think we have something to work with there.

OLB, we have i feel, the best two in football right now. adding johnson really just help shore that spot up. worilds is fighting for his next contract.

safety. we have good starters but old and injury prone. the depth drops off big time after these two, but we have guys that are not brand new to the system which should help. we have one talented rookie that could hang around.

i see a defense that could be very, very good if they stay healthy and don't wear the old guys out early in the season. with our schedule this year , that will be hard to do. the early bye hurts our vets , but may help our young guys. they can use that week to show the young guys what they are doing wrong if anything after a handful of games. after that it's going to be a long stretch. i just hope we are able to get some nice leads and our older vets can sit and watch.

I believe a more efficient and effective offense will help out this new defense and vise versa

Although I do like our depth,I do have some concerns
about some untested players. But I think given some playing time
they to will come around. As Mac daddio pointed out the NT,ILB, DE,LT,CB positions
are all going to be worth watching early on as is the safety position a possible concern
    with Troy's history of injuries.
