    Here's my prediction:

Trade down a few spots to pick up a 3rd
    1. Bradley Roby - CB - Ohio State
    2. Donte Moncrief - WR - Ole Miss
3a. Carl Bradford - OLB - Arizona State
    3b. Caraun Reid - DT/NT - Princeton
    4. Jordan Zumwalt - LB - UCLA
    5a. EJ Gaines - CB - Missouri
    5b. Wesley Johnson - G/T - Vanderbilt
6a. John Brown - WR - Pittsburgh State (Kansas)
    6b. Rob Blanchflower - TE - Mass
    7. Raijon Neal - RB - Tennessee

I'm still working through my final picks on the "what I would do" draft. If I have a chance before things get started, I'll add them.

Other than Neal, all are guys that the Steelers met with, so I'm playing the odds.

Got 3. I only matched 1 to the exact pick though.

Well.... now that Zumwalt and Branchflower are Steelers, I am a big fan of theirs. However, the mock above was a prediction. I never got around to finalizing my "what would I do" mock, but it sure as heck wouldn't have included a double down on ILB, and a complete pass on outside pass rushers. I certainly hope Zumwalt is better than either Williams or Garvin as a STeamer and ILB backup. Branchflower I do kind of like. As I've watched film, he's grown on me a bit.

Looking back I also had Zumwalt in my prediction mock. Must have been a lot of signs there. Still don't like the pick though!

You're on to something here, NB. I think it's the double dip at ILB most people don't like, not Zumwalt. Most mocks had us taking a corner 1 and an ILB in later rounds. In that scenario people were high on Zumwalt in the 4-5 range. After getting Shazier when they drafted Zumwalt people were like, "...another ILB?".

Personally, I like the pick. I heard an interview with the kid on 'Moving the Chains' at the Senior Bowl. He's very charismatic and very football smart. He's also aggressive, tall, played in 3-4, and runs a 4.6! Slower than Shazier but not slow. Nice backup buck LB and another run-and-hit special teamer at the least IMO.

I like the pick, he's a ferocious hitter. They are building a fast and heavy hitting defense, can't wait to see it.

I'm warming up to the Zumwalt pick. I guess if you can get a solid backup that late in the draft, it's a good deal. My issue with the pick was that there were a lot of highly productive players left at positions where we have needs.

To my way of thinking I think they got Shazier because of his skills and physical attributes and the Zumwalt pick to hedge against not getting Worilds to sign a long term extension. This gives them flexibility should that happen and then they don't have to head into the draft in 2015 looking at getting another OLB. Just a thought.

my first thought was Timmons spot in a few years. high salary and let's not forget tomlins first pick going into his 8th season. zumwalt, shazier in the future as our ILB dynamic duo? might work.

Lawrence is only 28 isnt he? I think he will be here a while yet. I see Zumwalt as a PS guy to begin, ST/backup is he sticks around.

it's not just how old he is but the years played. we usually don't keep LB'ers around for real long stretches. farrier and foote, but the last couple of years for them they slowed down. 3 more years and we will be talking of Timmons being old even if his age is younger. 10-11 years is a pretty long NFL career for most. that's a lot of train wrecks when he leads us in tackles every year. I like the thoughts of a guy in the pipeline to start to phase in at that point. he should know the defense in and out by then.

Well if you're going that route, remember that his first two seasons (one on the bench, one in pass coverage only) amount to about half a season played.

LOL I'm not pushing Timmons out the door by any means, just sayin. the lifespan of an average NFL player is like 4 years. in 3 more years who knows?
