Neither Ed Reed nor James Harrison deserved a suspension. They were both playing football.

I agree. Gotta say though, the exchange rate was pretty tremednous. Went from nearly costing $450,000, to costing just over $30K after tax. Not too shabby. I wonder how many times a suspension has successfully been appealed in NFL history?

My question is was McCoy still behind the line of scrimage? If he was then I believe he gets the same protection as a quarterback and not a runner. I agree with you on the Mass hit. But that happens so many times during a game. All the receivers duck there head just before impact and the defender ends up hitting the head of the receiver.

Yes, he was still behind the line and therefore not a runner at all

He pulled up right at the line....its all over youtube...you can go watch it again.

He had pulled the ball down and started to run with it...that makes him a runner....he flipped it out right at the line which turned him back into a passer.

The league office is further coloring in the gray area of what should be a black & white issue (or no issue at all). Either Reed did strike a players helmet with his or he didn't, and either this is his third offense or it isn't. He did and it is, therefore he should be suspended based upon the rules and precedent established by the league.

Problem is the league didn't drop his suspension an arbitrator did. Ray Anderson is a little ticked he's not getting suspended. He gets 2 games next foul guaranteed!

What arbitrator? I thought all appeals went through Goodell?

Ted Cottrell, who was apparently the leagues hearing officer. Interesting that his take was that there was no malice intended. I say there was. Everyone knows Reed wasn't about to try a wrap-up tackle with his bad shoulder and he clearly tucked his arms to protect himself and went in head first.

Steve Young is on NFL live tonight saying how there are guys out there looking for trouble(apparently he means Mays and Harrison) and that Reed is one of those guys he is just trying to make a clean football play but can't wrap up with his bad shoulder. Maybe Reed shouldn't play then if can't play with in the rules with his injury. Load of BS if you ask me.

If we're taking the hits themselves into account, then it should be noted that 3 out of Harrison's 5 fined hits were perfectly legal. I seem to remember the defense of Goodell at the time of Harrison's suspension being, "Look, it doesn't matter how perfectly legal all those other hits were or how much baloney it is that he got flagged and/or fined for them. He had already been flagged/fined, and this last one was against the rules, therefore he should have known and has a suspension coming." The idea being that being found guilty while innocent is the same as being truly guilty. And keep in mind this is all stuff that is reviewed after the fact with tape from multiple angles. They could have said, "Wait a minute, why are we even looking at this hit when there's nothing wrong with it?" and never did.

But now that it's Reed, it's "Oh come on look at the hit it wasn't that bad this is nuts there's no way he deserved a suspension."

This crap made me explode sitting at home just a few minutes ago! This son of a ***** can't tackle properly because he's hurt and he clearly tucked his arms in and led with his helmet. He's on television saying he was just trying for a clean hit and jar the ball loose and every talking head is praising how great a guy he is!

This is exactly why I have a problem with his suspension being overturned. There is absolutely no consistency.

This really just shows the bias the league has towards the Steelers. Yes I agree Reed should not be suspended if others were not suspended. But the league set the precedent that the players would be suspended. Then they change there protocal. And I have to listen to people on tv talk about intent. Telling everyone how the wr moved his head into it. Which I agree with in some cases but not on Sanders hit.

The proof just keeps coming. It is the Steelers vs everyone. Us against the world and I love it.
    Hopefully we respond.

If that is Clark he is gone for the next game. Heck if it was any Steeler he would be gone.

Remember when Ben got suspended 4 games for not getting arrested.

how about the hit on heath the play before? they didn't say a thing about that helmet to helmet hit nor did they even show it from different angles. one replay and move on. the guy hit him square in the facemask with the crown of his head and meant to. yet nothing. what a bunch of bull.:bscow::stogie::cool:

Now you understand why Silverback is totally screwed in the head?
He has lost his way and you can thank Roger and Company for this.

I know I'm probably beating a dead horse with this because I mention it all the time. But since we're piling it on, here... 2010 and 2011 seasons Hines Ward received concussions in games against Ravens and Patriots. In both games, he dropped the ball. I believe it played out such that one drop was an incomplete pass and the other was a fumble. BOTH HITS WERE CLEAR H2H AND NO FLAGS!!!!

    :mad::frustrated:

In case you guys didn't know, the appeals person is jointly hired by the NFL and NFLPA. So the guy who didn't overturn Harrison's appeal and who did overturn Reed's is partially paid for by the players. It's not the commissioners office that simply rejected the appeal.

I stand by what I said though, Harrison was his own worst enemy. When you're looking for a little leaway, it's best to not be spouting off to the media all the time. Right or wrong, that's the way it is. He went about things the wrong way, as did Vilma, although he ended up getting his suspension reversed due to the courts and nothing to do with his appeal.

The real aftermath of this will occur in upcoming weeks when another player (lik Clark, Mundy, or another) get suspended for a similar play and loses the appeal. There is no consistency and there is favoritism.

The Irony will be that it will be Clark against Baltimore and the whole talking head world will say how he doesn't tackle properly and the suspension is justified!
