    From Tomlin's press conference:

(Tomlin) would not commit to naming a starter if both Redman and Dwyer are healthy."I'm not a big hypothetical guy. I'm going to live day to day throughout this week and work with the guys that are healthy in preparation and kind of make the decision as we go."

I'm telling you sometimes Tomlin gives me a headache with some of his crap. Are back to back 100+ yard games in which Dwyer averaged over 6 YPC hypothetical performances??!! Why can't he say that if Dwyer is healthy and ready to play HE IS THE STARTING RB BECUSE HE HAS EARNED IT?!

I understand that you want to keep players hungry so they'll keep working hard and all that jazz, but he seems to not want to give Dwyer his due for some reason. Benching him for 2 games because of a fumble?? Why wasn't Wallace benched? Why wasn't AB benched? Why wasn't Mendy benched for 2 games when he went on a fumbling spree earlier in his career?

There is something underneath the surface that we are apparently not seeing. I'm sure I'll get chastised by some of you for trying to create something out of nothing, but it totally blows me away that Tomlin cannot say that Dwyer is the starter on Sunday if he's healthy without going into that nonsensical coach speak he's so famous for. I'm sorry, this just rubbed me the wrong way when I read it. :frustrated:

Maybe he's just trying to keep from helping the Giants be better prepared for a specific back

    :hmmm:

Interesting theory, but I don't think that's it. For some reason, Tomlin doesn't seem to be a big fan and I almost sense a little disappointment on Tomlin's part that Dwyer has emerged as the CLEAR choice for starting RB.

I also found this interesting tidbit from Ed Bouchette on PG+:
By hearing the players’ comments after the game about Dwyer, MT could lose the locker room if he started anyone else at halfback in New York.

Well Dywer's hurt, so you can't really name him starter on Tuesday without seeing how he preforms in practice on Thursday. All backs are nursing something, so it's not pragmatic to name one starter in the dark without seeing how the week progresses. Makes it harder for the other team to gameplan, too.

I understand that, but I think the question was "if Dwyer is healthy" will he start? To me, that should have been a resounding YES!

What purpose would that serve though? I liked his answer. Why name a starter yesterday, even hypothetically, when you've basically got a stable full of backs who are potentially competing for snaps throughout this week's practices. That, and there's no need to help the Giants game plan.

My opinion is that you go with the hot hand. If he's capable and not injured, you play the guy who just had 2 consecutive 100+ yard weeks. Hopefully his quad turns out alright. I'm a little excited to see what the RB lineup is this Sunday. :towel:

Exactly. He's not saying "I won't name a starter." He's basically saying (on my reading), given that everyone is bit banged up, it makes no sense to say who would be starting if they were healthy as that achieves precisely nothing. "Ifs" aren't helpful here.

As someone on here has said a few times, if my aunt had balls...

whats said up above,,, and maybe Dwyer is the type of player you have to keep hungry and pissed off, that's how you get the most out of the guy, keep him pissed, he sure runs like he's mad, why ruin a good thing lol have Redman and Dwyer battle it out, keep them both pissed off, the other team's D has to pay for it not us.

That's not true. It would achieve making some message boarders feel better for a day or two. WHY ARE YOU SO AGAINST THAT, MIKE?!?!

Well, since Dwyer is now out for the game, I guess it's a non-issue......

That's great, but that's also the hypothetical situation that Tomlin was referring too.
