interesting look snack. bell and mcfadden have to be closer to red. they had a good season each before injuries did them in. we will see if the current bunch on the o-line can play to their status. i think they can.

Kendrell Bell?? Come on, that man was a total beast. He had Hall of Fame potential. I know the injuries killed him, but they killed us too. He was so good that not having him on the field did us in. I can't fault him for that. He did enough to prove he was an incredible football player in the NFL, and if he'd stayed healthy, would have been a monster his whole career.

McFadden's return wasn't much to celebrate in the end (although was still a big step up from 2009 Gay), and he didn't win the starting job nearly as soon as expected, but he was very strong as a nickel back, and a major role player on two Super Bowl teams. Hell, without him, we don't win that first one.

Totally agree with this, he was one of my favorite Steelers. Injuries robbed us of a great Steeler, would have gotten a lot of superb play from Kendrell.

Here is hoping Mcneil beats him out. I hope Mcneil has his head ready
and screwed on properly. He has an excellent chance to be used in the Steelers RB corral.
He must be able to pass block if he is going to make the team. Why do you think Baron Batch is
    still here?

My money is riding on Bell. I think he is really going to impress right out of the gates.

i'm not saying they were not good players , but they didn't pan out as good 2nd round picks for the team, nomatter the reason. mcfadden never made a full season from the time he got here. he had ankle issues and hamstring issues his whole career. good player but couldn't stay on the field.

bell was great at blitzing and we all fell in love with that. they also talked about his inability in coverage and learning other aspects of the defense besides what he did well. his groin did him in here, but even after in KC , he didn't fair well as an all around LB.

i look at it like simmons as a first rounder. was he a good player? yes , when he was healthy, but he never was. good pick at the time? yes. a successful pick overall for the team? probably not.

I understand what you're saying, but don't forget a couple things: Simmons shored up a weak position just in time for a Super Bowl run. Everybody acts like RG is no big deal because it's not the blind side, it's not an edge, and it's not the center, making the calls. But the truth is if you don't have a good player there, your whole team will still get messed up (see Dockett vs. Stapleton in SB 43). Simmons locked that **** down, which is exactly what we needed. Bryant McFadden had trouble beating out Townsend (not exactly a bad thing, because Townsend was very underrated), and then he had trouble staying on the field. But again, he was there when we needed him most, for two Super Bowl runs, and if we draft someone else in the 2nd round in 2005, we don't even reach the 2005 Super Bowl. A lot of people consider the Santonio Holmes pick to be tarnished because he only got one contract. That's a bummer, but that pick still won us a Super Bowl, so I call it awesome. To some degree I'd call the McFadden pick excellent based on one Super Bowl saving play, even if he never did anything else for us. Of course, I don't have to say that, because he did do other stuff for us, but saving a Super Bowl gives him a big bump in my book.

I also think you're not giving Bell enough credit. He wasn't just a blitzer, he was an all around great player.

Oh it's ok Jim. I've decided not to copyright my posts even though maybe I should because TTF lifted one from me too. LOL.

Well some time ago we were talking about MCClendon for some reason and I made that post saying that TTF was wanting to see MCClendon. I've been pounding the MCClendon drum for a while also. I suppose you should be jealous but you should also know that it really puts a lot of pressure on you when you are expected to be such an awesome poster that people will use your material. Since TTF and Jim have done this I've become a "tortured soul" and I've decided to become a "recluse" because I'm a victim of my own greatness because every time I make a post I have to live up to my last post. It's really hard knowing that people may be let down by my posts and then be like "man blount you've lost that 'thing' you had that made you so great". Man I'll tell ya Snack it sure is lonely at the top. LOL. I've still not reached Pimply Dan status though. It's one thing to be a hero but it's a completely separate thing to be a FOLK hero.

I will have to ask my little boy. We were walking across the yard from my Auntie's house the other day and we have one of those "stop sign windows" on the end of the house. I actually don't even know if they still make those. But Ben looked up and said "THAT'S AN OCTAGON!" So I would say that he's an expert. I will ask him. He's probably the world's smartest 2 year old and TTF is no match for him. LOL.

BFT...I'm a little let down by this post! On the other hand, don't sell yourself short. You are ( ) this close to being a FOLK hero.
