I'm glad he is gone. The Steelers need to stop hitching their wagon to second & third tier no name RB's. Dwyer was never going to be a marquis headliner kind of RB. We haven't had one of those guys since Bus retired. RB drafting and pickups have been a weak spot by the FO for the past several years.

Good luck Dwyer but the Steelers won't regret it.

I disagree with this for the most part.Dwyer has great running skills as good as any in the NFL IMO.The only thing that will help your opinion prove to be valid is the small other stuff.ie working out, getting prepared, holding on to the ball, blitz pu things of that nature.
If Dwyer gets up to speed in those ares there is no reason he can't be a feature back. Will He ?Thats the question.

You mean a feature back like Redman?!?!? This isn't Friday nights under the lights man. It is time that the steelers invested in a legitimate marquis RB like Peterson, Foster, Charles, Rice, etc. Heck even a CJ or Stephen Davis would better than what we start week after week for the past several years. Over half the teams in the league have better starting RBs that teams have to account for and game plan for. We haven't had that type of RB consistently since Bettis. Guys like Dwyer, Red, Mewelde Moore, Mendenhall, Parker, Gary Russell, Davenport, Haynes, Duce, ..... I can go on but it will be the same story.

I remember when people wanted to run the bus out of town as his skills diminished and injuries set in. our O-line, blocking scheme, and OC have not been real favorable for RB's to excel here for a good while either.

I would have liked to seen mendy and parker and zerouwae (sp?) run behind this scheme and line once they get it together. it could have been pretty good. i'm not so sure the bus would have looked quite as good in it though. you have to match players to the scheme and the scheme to the players. like our mismatched line at times, or still.

Excuse my absence and lack of participation.

it goes without saying, as it has been said an exhausting amount of times.
if the line don't show up, it doesn't matter who we hire to carry the ball, and just as much so as having Ben distribute the ball. It all starts with the line so nothing ground breaking here.

in the spirit of this thread though, I personally think Dwyer has a substantial amount of talent meaning quite a bit of more upside than Redman. Problem is, is Dwyer himself... I see him as more of a "Crammer" than a "student" as far as preparing himself for the big test. I think his overall dedication is questionable and it has showed. Too bad, because if the kid really wanted the spotlight he could've took it a year ago and we could've used the 2nd pick on another position of need... Again it's just my opinion.

So looking forward, here's to hoping for solid line play and getting Bell healthy

    :this!:

Couldn't have said it better. For everyone out there that wonders why the team hasn't run it more over the last few years - look at Knox's post. We have been at the bottom of the talent pool at RB for a decade.

We've been at the bottom of the talent pool, alright, but not at RB. Our offensive line has been just that, OFFENSIVE. For the most part we've had the RB, Bettis, Parker, Mendenhall and now hopefully LeVeon Bell can be THE GUY. To say the Steelers haven't invested in the RB position is not quite accurate.

I think we all agree on the O-line situation. But I don't see how you can say how we had the RB with FWP or Mendy. FWP couldn't push his way through a wet paper bag and Mendy ran like he didn't care - no heart. I like Redman, but he shouldn't be starting on any NFL team. I am with you - I hope Bell can be the guy. I also think Jones is going to help our running attack as well.

I agree Jack, we've done pretty well at the position. Bettis was a great back, Mendy and Parker are good backs and we'll see what we have with Bell.

Giants and NE worked him out, so far no takers. Theres a reason we went out and drafted a RB.

Me either. I thought Curtis McNeal was going to be that guy next season, was very surprised they let him go.

Like I said, Bettis was the last legit feature RB we have had. Parker was weak and small and after the injury was a waste of a roster spot. Mendenhall was a classic under performer and head case to boot. The steelers FO has failed at the RB position over the past 7 years and now we debating who is better between redman and Dwyer.... AGAIN..... Bell may be that feature RB we need but that is surely debatable and yet to be seen. We have a stable of mediocre to below average RBs and have for at least 7 years. I'm not giving the OL a pass, but they receive 100% of the blame. The reality is that they share the blame with Ben free lancing and holding the ball, crappy play calling that doesn't exploit the D weaknesses, and RBs that are low on talent skills and heart.

Well...based on Redmans 6 carries for -4 yards and 2 fumbles in the first half.....Dwyer is right so far.

yeah to play center... linbacker and to follow redman around and pick up his fumbles.. just a piss poor team effort today .. i think woodley played well from what i seen .. AB did ok... d played pretty well ...the O all sucked... good thing is all the injuries dont matter.. we can score 0 points with the starters or 11 guys from the bench

As previously posted from as far back as the old board, Redman is not a 1st string NFL back. He's not even 2nd. Still credible, when used sparingly with the 1st and 2nd backs.
Dwyer had other issues we're not privy to. Punctuality and so forth

We're waiting for Bell. That's it.

    Where was Jones?
