With the start of season release of Dwyer, then re-signing him - Redman #1 to not dressing to release - Whimper not dressing to beast-mode vs Ravens

...does it seem that we (front office/coaching staff) cannot judge talent?

I know you cannot tell how someone will react in game situations but, the coaches spend a lot of time with these guys...one would think they would be better at it by now. Heck, sitting at the bar watching the game, I am a GREAT judge of talent (serious sarcasm)

These things make you wonder. I think it says alot that the coaching staff can't figure out who gives the team the best chance at success.

I wonder if the CBA rules with wimpy practices cause some of this...???

Keep in mind some of this is predicated on the health of the team. It was a numbers game early on in which they didn't think Dwyer was the guy. Since he came back it sounds like he has been outperforming Redman. I would expect some more cuts and signings in the next week or two since Spaeth will be off the IR I think for week 8. I think this cut of Redman has a lot more to do with the now disclosed injury to Timmons. If nothing else it gives them another body at practice at LB and if Timmons can't go he is on the roster and is able to play this weekend at Oakland.

The first time Whimper was in he looked like dog chit. Glad they took another look at him

This. Dwyer also didn't seem to be in tip top form in preseason, when they were obviously trying to advertise a trade for him. Redman's performance has been sub-par, and everyone can see that.

Redman was a pile pusher that had his moments. Dwyer has a lot of upside if he'd quit overindulging in the offseason. Abdullah had some help, but he held his own as well. Was it it just his moment? Nobody really knows at this point. We will see though if he's consistent enough to make a difference.

a lot of times, all of the roster moves are just about timing and game plan guessing... If it was an exact science, then we'd have a laundry list of all the non existent questions we currently pose to match the unneeded questions per se.

Red had his chances... He's either not a good fit, or simply has just not been durable enough to matter. Dwyer is and has been semi productive in the least. And Abdullah? Time will tell.

I think that's a fair question and the thought has entered my mind. I think our coaches and FO can judge talent, but they've had their share of faux pas of late.

I don't think red has the vision to run as well in a cutback type system. he's more an old school line up the fullback and run the I-formation runner. dwyer is more of that too. my thoughts on them anyway.

as for Abdullah, I think the steelers like the Tackles as a TE for an extra blocker so these guys will continue to get some playing time at that spot. adams/Abdullah/gilbert. this helps our newly found run game and newly found bad attitude and our new bell.

Yeah Red is a pile pusher... Dwyer has slightly more to offer with better vision and speed and similar ability to churn... The rest of it, well hell if it works? Then absolutely!

At the time Redman was a significantly better blocking back. That is a major necessity for a team with a porous offensive line. You also have to take into account Felix Jones. They didn't know what they were getting with him. He's panned out which makes Redman nothing more than a mediocre running back that we don't need anymore. Beast mode? Really? We ran straight up the gut repeatedly for two reasons. Our tackles in that game are pathetic run blockers and the ravens interior dline and lb'ers are soft. In the process we made whimper and beachum look far better than they actually are.

they may not be the better run blockers but most of our offense comes from the pass and they are better at that then what we had. they are not close to pathetic though. at least beachum. i'll wait and see on whimper more than 1 game.

we run up the middle because of velasco,DD and foster not because the tackles are that bad in run blocking. no beachum isn't a line em up and power the run type of player. he's a mobile player though and creates cut back lanes and second level ability in the run game.
