It seems a bit excessive to me but I trust Coach T knows what he's doing in regard to motivating his players. Interesting to know he was benched though. I hadn't heard that before.

That's REALLY interesting. I'm kinda sitting here in shock. I'm sure we all remember that he also benched Mendy for a game because he wasn't practicing up to what Tomlin considered to be "par" I suppose you could say. It's just REALLY hard for me to believe that he would do that because of a fumble. MAYBE it's true but I just gotta believe there has to be SOMETHING we don't know. Dang man if it is true that is pretty hardcore though.

It sure is hard core blountforce .. Its also unfair . Tomlin only benches running backs yet he allows Mikey 5 drops to embarrass himself and the team . Dont get it

Mike Wallace gets more leeway than Dwyer.. The stars always do, it's the nature of the beast. If Dwyer starts to piggyback these performances together he will benefit from that treatment as well.

Yeah I just dont get it. I think if you want to send a message to a player for poor play you dispense justice evenly . Wallace should have been sitting on the bench with all of the drops as of late. This would hopefully motivate him to play at a higher level. He has more to lose then anyone if he is playing his last year as a Steeler.

Yeah I was in favor of benching Wallace DURING that game. I would like to see how he would react to being benched. But to bench a guy TWO games for a ONE fumble? Dang man. Where's Tomlin's harshness on Ike? It would be one thing if Dwyer were doing that on a consistent basis but if it was over one fumble I think that is pretty extreme. Ike has been a constant liability but I always feel like he doesn't face any consequences. I know a lot of people said that him and Tomlin were even LAUGHING on the sidelines during that Titans debacle. Also isn't Tomlin always the guy talking about the "standard"? Maybe he should be talking about the "DOUBLE standard".

I thought about that very question when I typed that statement. But there are some who would like to see Robert Golden I believe. But isn't that the point of putting in the guy that you know isn't as good? Isn't it supposed to be Tomlin saying that he knows Ike is better but he wants to send him a message that just because there might not be a better guy behind him he still can't hold the team hostage because of it? It's basically a psychological game at the end of the day.

Didn't Wallace get pulled directly after his first drop for several plays? I thought I say Coctheryin there for a few plays with Brown and maybe Sanders. So Wallace could have been benched for poor play in game and then let out of the doghouse as the game progressed.

To bench a player 2 Games for 1 fumble is a bit of an over reach if you ask me. It seems like favoritism and accountability swinging in only one direction.

Ben throws a god awful pick. Do they plug in Batch immediately? Start him the next week?

Mistakes happen but this 2 week benching is just not warranted at all IMO. Maybe could have made a difference in either of those losses.

Tomlin should bench himself for the 54 yard field goal try. That was a major mistake that ultimately gave Oakland great field position to win the game.

Heck. Mike Wallace should be benched for 8 games since he had 4 drops against Cincy.

Tomlin shouldn't be such an egghead sometimes.

I think Dwyer was sat 1 game for the fumble, the other was probably due to the success on the field in the first game. If you remember, Mendenhall had a very good game against the Eagles, an impact laden game. Redman is generally considered the short yardage guy and Batch the 3rd down guy with Rainey thrown in on occasion. To me, he suffered the consequences for 2 games, but only 1 was punishment.

Now when it comes to being fair, Tomlin at some point MUST consider sitting Wallace for some plays...and do it so the whole team knows. Run a series of plays which is usually his, but not to him.

You then sit down and have a conversation with him about his contract. You think a team is going to sign you to a 10 million dollar deal with those hands? Get it together Mike.

Hmm, lets see, Tomlin benches Mendy and Mendy responds by playing great. Tomlin benches Dwyer and Dwyer responds by playing great. Maybe Tomlin knows his players better then you guys :hmmm:

Let's see, he benched Dwyer for 2 games and then he had the performance of his life!?!? Did he handle it correctly? As a leader, coach, manager, etc..., you have to realize that everyone is different and will respond differently to how you handle them. This is how Coach Tomlin decided to motivate Dwyer based on his personality and it worked! Here we go Steelers!

I guess then there is no one else left on the team that can be motivated by being benched. That's a shame too because I can think of a few other guys that can use a little push in the right direction. ;)

I just read on one of the SI links that Dwyer didn't practice yesterday due to personal reasons. I wonder if it has anything to do with him being benched before? As an FYI, Mendy and Redman didn't practice either because of injuries. I sure hope we have a RB for Sunday!

Looks like Tomlin has his teachers pets, we get the best rushing performance this year from Dwyer and teacher still isnt happy, time for Haley to take charge and tell tomlin to nib out on who his back rotation will be on sunday, i'm sure Lebeau would tell tomlin to nib out on who he has in his lineup sunday, i'm no fan of tomlin to begin with, but his constant nit picking on Dwyer seems more like a personal dis-like than a discipline thing, no one benched Bettis when he was playing at 260, but then again tomlin shows favoritism amongst players to the detrement of this team, so tomlin needs to nib out and let the co-ordinators do their job and he needs to quit showing favoritism when it comes to player discipline....

Do you honestly believe that Wallace would respond the same way as Dwyer and Mendy did to their benching? Not everyone can be coached the same way.
