okay so we have to make a decision on Bud Dupree’s 5th year option. What I’ve seen that’d be around 9mill? I don’t think we will pick that option up at that price. But Dupree said he wants to stay in Pittsburgh and if we decline he becomes a UFA. What I expect is to decline and try to sign him to a longer term deal at a cheaper price maybe something like 6mill a year? Dupree isn’t an all pro like everyone wants him to be or expected but he is a solid player. No he’s not Jarvis Jones and that’s not even a close comparison. But if we decline the option that only means to me that they will try and sign him at a cheaper price or go after another veteran OLB. I don’t see just declining the option letting him walk and going into the draft with another hole.

By the way this is my first post

    Welcome to the board!

Yes, Bud is a solid player. He didn't have a season to dictate top dollar. At least, not from what I could see.

Well,I wouldn't give him Dupree type money but I would keep him for a lot cheaper and probably get the same production or maybe even more...Dupree is a big disappointment,I just don't see any fire.

I could see them offering Dupree less money, him being offended, and then they offer Chickillo a deal. Kinda like the AB/Mike Wallace deal.

Dupree showed a ton of upside at the end of 2016. What happened? He regressed.

Steeler fans have to accept the fact that we utilize LB's differently now and that these guys are never going to rack up 17-20 sacks like JH did. I expect him in the 10 sack range, should reach that next season.

I actually saw someone say that they dont buy that we use LB's differently now. They never dialed up the All 22 obviously.

I know. I think people just see that we are still in 3-4 and assume they rush every play.

Yes because dropping the linebackers into coverage works wonders. Remember all the plays bud and TJ made against Bortles last week? Oh wait

He still rushed a lot this season and failed to get home. More importantly, he often got caught inside on runs to the outside. He's still a good bit better than Jarvis Jones, but he did not play well this season.

That’s all very nice. But he still regressed. Particularly when he was rushing.

He had 34 solo tackles and 10 assisted tackles also 6 sacks.

For where he was drafted and regardless of how “raw” he was coming out, and what our LBR’s do or don’t do in our system, he is garbage.

Watt does the same thing on the other side, he’s a rookie, and is consistently getting in on plays or close to making plays. This does not happen w Dupree. No more excuses for this bum.

That's why Porter needs to be fired, Dupree worked in the offseason with pass rush specialist Chuck Smith it didn't help though. I didn't expect Dupree to get double digit sacks like some fans did, I thought he could get around 8 sacks this past season.

Welcome to the board! Yeah no way you can pay him that kind of money. Too many needs on this team and players with raises coming up to put that much coin on an olb that doesn't generate pressure. Hopefully they can sign him to a cheaper "prove it" deal, but who knows. All I know is that he isn't worth 9 million. We could easily get his production in FA for much less.
