And why do you think that

Smith was here when the decision was made to hire Wilson

The hiring would have had Smith’s input

God almighty we will f’ing suck again. 9 win season and hopefully another wildcard loss is the goal! Keep buying them hat and hoodies so they meet budget but they ain’t giving the fans anything but mediocrity. I have been a steeler man for over 50 years of my life and I swear I wish I could pull for someone else but I can’t do it for loving the old Steelers so much but I guarantee they will be no more merchandise bought for this house!

In what world did we upgrade several positions, including a massive upgrade at QB (or so the world thought) compared to last year and we were expected to finish with 4 wins? That makes no sense.

Only way Tomlin ever gets fired is if the stadium has enough empty seats. People stop buying tickets but that will never happen therefore if you don’t hurt Rooney’s wallet and embrace him with tv shots of a 3/4 empty stadium nothing will change. Not sure it even would then but that’s about the best shot we have.

Only a complete fool, or someone that's insane would keep paying good money for such a bad product. Fortunately for Rooney, there are plenty of suckers out there.

It sounded like Arthur Smith was looking forward to working with a young Kenny Picket in his first real interview in Pittsburgh

Exclusive interview with OC Arthur Smith | Pittsburgh Steelers.

Massive upgrade at QB?? Are you kidding me, who thought that? It was the QB position that had everyone picking us to finish last. We picked up two guys that no one wanted and one was paid 80 million to go away.

Wilson is better than Pickens...most likely. We never really got a chance to find out.

Suggest you give it to AJ Brown, when the defense is on the field

I agree, but the people who vote on these things pretty publicly gush over Tomlin.

Maybe? There are a few that are just now starting to even criticize him... but there is a lot of apologetic undertones. Saying things like "mutually part ways", "great coach, but both sides need a fresh start". There isn't a lot of people flat out saying that Tomlin is a huge part of the Steelers post season failures and should be fired. There was an article on Steelers Depot that had someone say the Steelers should be "banished from the league" if they fire Mike Tomlin...

I think we still have a long way to go before the national media and AP types start to believe that Tomlin is anything other than the guy he was 15 years ago.

And they're already starting up with the apologetics. "Nobody thought they'd even win 4 games this year!" What an absolute crock of :bscow:!

They were in the playoffs last year and by all accounts upgraded (not enough, but still) the offense in the off-season. But they were going to be #1 draft pick contenders?!?! Gimme a break! Moving the goalposts just to make him seem great.

Anyone that thought this roster was a 4 win roster is dumb. You're right, we were a playoff team a season ago and got better in the offseason with signings and draft picks... We signed 2 QB's better than the entire QB roster from 2023, we added a really good ILB in Queen, a very nice SS in Elliott, drafted a future PB center, a quality starting G, (hopefully a really good young OT, F injuries)...

Its all apologetics. Oh man, the Steelers lost in the WC again... but it's not Tomlin's fault! The roster is a 4 win roster! Getting 10 wins and losing in the WC round is a great job by him! .... Dumb. Absolutely, ridiculously, dumb.

The only coaching change that would make a difference is Tomlin. With him there he is afraid to hire a qualified coach that would come in and have ideas of there own. He has never had a coach he has hired and go on to be successful. There is a reason players like playing for him he coaches like there friend not there leader

    I am fully aware.

What I believe you may have misunderstood is the aspect of removing Tomlins ability to call plays. I'd imagine that would be something to piss him off given how he has been hands on in game planning; particularly on the Defensive Side. However, given the sample size of the playoff debacle, there isn't any other option AR II can exercise.

In turn, that could be the very thing that would get Tomlin out of Pittsburgh. I only mentioned Jacksonville in another thread as Trevor Lawrence is still very much a young talented QB along with an entire Organization who is in dire need of a Culture change. Problem is Trent Baalke. Tomlin isn't going from one Franchise Owner that strips him of power to another and, sadly, Baalke has a history of doing just that.

no, with the acknowledged upgrades all over the place the prevailing prediction was an improved record and at least one playoff win. Even with the tougher schedule in mind. So much for that.

Rex is such a dumbass. I hate when people try to rewrite the Cowher years to prop up Tomlin.

Cowher never went more than 3 years without making it to the AFC Championship Game. His hang-up was getting over the final hump.

Tomlin can't even make it out of the first ****ing round if he doesn't have a HOF quarterback.

    A line I stole:

The Steelers seasons are like DLC's for a bad video game, it's a new DLC but it doesn't matter because it's still a bad game.
