I'm worried because JF feels like a slightly better than .500 QB and we desperately need a losing season.

The fallacy that we have to suck for at least a year in order to draft a top level QB. I don't know why this is still a belief that is held after so many examples of guys who made it from further back in the draft (and for how many busts exist at the top of the draft).

Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Brock Purdy, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love... and those are just guys that are still actively playing (not that they all are still elite players, but they all were top 10 QB's for a time in their careers). That's over 21% of the starting QB's in the league. It's just not true.

Missing on Hurts is the one that really stings. The Steelers needed an heir to Ben that year. Hurts was there in the second round, staring them right in the face. And they took Claypool…

Hurts has the best offensive line in the NFL, the best running back in the NFL, arguably the best pair of starting receivers, and a very good tight end. He also has a head coach who has a clue about offense. He would have had none of that with the Steelers. Hurts isn't a guy who is going to be good in every system. I don't think he would have been nearly as good in Pittsburgh.

I saw people posting that during the game but it's just hindsight, how many people were saying this during the draft?

Skylar Thompson is dreadful. Stick with him and the elusive losing season is guaranteed.

This is why McCord wouldn't be a good fit for the Steelers lack of mobility.

I definitely wanted him at that time. To be fair, he wasn’t a sure thing, which is why he was available in the second round. But the Steelers needed an heir apparent.

Having Ben still around likely didn’t help. No veteran QB likes their team spending draft capital on another QB. But Ben was into his late 30s by that point.

I did, sometimes you have a bad day at work,
Look what happened to the best QB of this generation last night.

He threw two interceptions, one with his left tackle being shoved back into him. It's not like defenders were hanging all over McCord in that game. He made a few terrible decisions, then things snowballed and he fell apart against a middling defense. Not good.

And people are saying don't draft a QB this year, wait until 2026. Then 3-4 years from now those same people will be complaining we didn't draft a QB when so and so was still available and instead we drafted some knucklehead WR.

If you want to win the lottery, you're gonna have to buy a ticket. Swing for the fences dammit!
