Drew Maggi

I hope the Pirates keep him up for a while, though I doubt it. It is a known baseball phenomenon of a guy who has been in the minors or who has bounced around a very long time who finally gets his shot, playing his ass off for a brief time period. Anyone remember Al (ESPN) Pedrique? The team could use that kind of thing. I know I’d enjoy it.
BTW, Maggi is only like 2 1/2 years younger than Andrew McCutchen.

 

Was so pulling for the guy today. He popped one to the warning track. I was screaming for it to go out. Last night they saved his first MLB foul ball for him.

Never heard of Pedrique but I think the defunct Montreal Expo's had a 40 year old career minor leaguer or something like that.

 

Al played parts of three seasons in the late 80s. He was a .301 hitter for the Pirates in 87 with decent defense at SS. A .182 hitter outside that one year. His defense was featured on ESPN at times. He faded rapidly back into obscurity after that one good year.
Yeah, you have to root for Drew Maggi.
