Most back ups don't have a choice. Cam may be in that category now and usually when they find themselves there that want to go to a good contender.

Not every team has a starter that a team is committed to the way the Steelers are committed to Roethlisberger.

Also, the Steelers don't really have the cap space for a quality veteran backup. Newton is going to want a decent payday even as a No. 2.

Chargers, Raiders, Redskins....all have questionable #1s. Newton to the Steelers is a joke and way out of the financial realm.

They have 2 choices right now take back up to a team with a shaky QB or don't play and wait for an injury right? Not a lot of options out there right now, jmo

How is this post still alive? This is like the the organization says we are not going to change our uniforms and still people are posting what new uniforms would look like.

I think the league saw enough of Cam's lack of mental faculties and lack of desire over the years. Carolina had to hype him up because they had no choice. I wouldn't want him if he would play for free.

The guy was league MVP once. That wasn't just Carolina hype. Newton could play. I just don't trust him to be healthy and I doubt the Steelers could afford him, anyway.

Our backups would have a hard time being a backup in the XFL

Him winning MVP was a joke. As is he, he doesn't have the mental capacity or the intestinal fortitude to play in the NFL let alone QB.

During his MVP season, Newton threw 35 touchdown passes and only 10 interceptions. He also ran for 636 yards and 10 more touchdowns. He led his team to a 15-1 record. I'm not a fan of judging players by their team's record, even quarterbacks, but that is absolutely a factor in MVP votes. He had a great tight end, Olson, but the rest of the receiving corps was below average. Ted Ginn, Jr. was their top wideout.

Newton got 48 of the 50 votes for MVP that season. No, him winning MVP was not a joke. I'm not advocating signing him now that he has broken down physically, but your characterization of what he has been as a pro is way off.

I would welcome Eli Roger back before Switzer. And if Ben whines and pouts about not having his Edelman on The team then so be it. Put on the big boy pants and do your job

I don't think they're interested in Eli, last season when they had injuries at WR they didn't bring him back.
