I was just looking at this and was shocked they only met with 3 guys. If I am right the visits at the Shrine Game and Senior Bowl don't count towards our 30 visits right? Why not meet with more, am I wrong to wonder that? I was looking at all the team visits and yeah there are a few teams that was like us but most met with a lot of players, this is a great opportunity for our staff to get extra time with these guys.....

While these don't count toward our visits, I don't necessarily have a problem with the lack of visits. We spend a bunch of time with guys on their college days. That is what we do. In addition, it is possible that they just don't like a bunch of guys from the game.

I would be almost 100% sure the list of players they met with is much bigger. They can have official visits with 60 players at the combine and 30 visits with local prospects at their training facility. The unofficial visits on the other hand probably number in the hundreds. I believe the ones reported by the media, a la Walterfootball, are only the ones they actually see happening or are reported to them by a trusted source.

Here's an interesting article I found on how some teams can take scouting to different levels...

Again preparation is key. If you are going to invest a lot of money in someone/something aren't
you going to do your homework?

I disagree you take every chance you get to meet with the prospects who you are going to be spend time and money on. Especially when your the Steelers who pride themselves as a team that builds thru the draft. Now as far as not liking guys from the Shrine and Senior bowl we are in trouble, we are talking about 180-200 players.

well we start our draft with the 30th ranked guy. there are 44 starters in the game on both sides. we are well down in the pecking order in each round so we will have to look deep and a lot of the top tier guys may just be out of our reach. we don't have that 6th round pick either to try to sweeten the pot with in a move either. we probably remove offensive linemen from this group too so that takes us 10 + more guys down the ladder.

True however our top 30 and other peoples top 30 are different so I am going to say anyone from 11-30 you keep in case of a Decastro deal again, right? Also don't we have two 5th rounders to make up for the loss of the 6th? Agreed about the oline, probably a spot we aren't looking at.

We dont need OL help. 5 starters 5 backups on our roster.

    Finney
    Hubbard
    Hawkins
    Dude from Denver
    Wallace
    Malik

We dont need an 11th OL.

Maybe we are just trying to keep a low profile ...some undercover interviews after the Ben-gals "obviously""stole our picks last year... In all seriousness though I did read somewhere that the Steelers were " ghosts" down there. I don't know if they meant not really represented or laying low....

i'm just talking about heavily having meetings with that many top guys from those games. it limits us pretty much. throw out the o-linemen and we have a small sample size that we really have a shot at. sure guys drop but there is a lot out there on the top guys to go from.

I thought the 6th rounder was in 2018 if you are referring to the Gilbert trade. Unless we lost one this year too for someone else?

I see what your saying and that is fine if you are talking "top" prospects however between the 2 games the is like 200 players. If there is a small list of "top" players they are interested in fine that is even more reason to spend time with the "lower" prospects. There is so much coverage on these "top" prospects that I feel spending time with the "lower" prospects is that much more important. We are not FA players and get a ton of credit for building in the draft, with that said that is why I am questioning the lack of meeting. But like someone pointed out they might have had "unofficial" meetings with other and it wasn't reported or went unknown. I am just talking about what I have read and it was only 3 prospects in 2 games.........jmo
