If the Steelers draft Poe in the first round, are we assuming that the Steelers are going to stay in the 3-4 for awhile?
Or can Poe be effective as a DT in the 4-3 in the NFL?

    thoughts?

Watched him alot. This kid can play either. I also think he could be a good passrusher from The nt position

If a player can be a NT in a 3-4 he can play in a 4-3. Its still the DT position either way. Now some regular DTs may not be able to play a 3-4 NT due to size...but the other way around is obvious.

We can assume we're staying in the 3-4 for awhile anyway, based on recent drafts and success.

Not necessarily. A 3-4 NT can be the slowest man on earth, as long as he has the strength to take on multiple blockers he'll be fine. A 4-3 NT needs at least enough speed to get to the QB. While what you said is true in most cases, I'm sure there are the odd 3-4 guys who don't have enough speed to play in the 4-3

I would assume so, but Hood is a 4-3 guy more than a 3-4.

Probably, but that's just one guy... And he hasn't played the 4-3 since college. And even then he was considered a top candidate for switching to a 3-4. Everyone else -- Keisel, Hampton, Heyward, Harrison, Woodley, Farrior, Timmons, Foote, Worilds, Carter, are either built for the 3-4 or so versitile that they can succeed in any system.
