It depends. The Bucs probably didn't hire Licht and Smith with a 3-5 year rebuild in mind. Ownership in some towns can be impatient. I wouldn't make that deal from Tampa's perspective, but if I were the GM or coach and knew that I needed to be in the playoffs next year or the seat could get warm, I may have a different perspective.

Ben has 1 year left on his contract. No one is giving you a 1st round pick let alone the #1 overall pick to rent a player for 1 season.

No, of course not. They would need to work out an extension with Ben to make it work. However, in terms of draft pick compensation, I don't think it would be unrealistic for a team in "win now" mode. The #1 overall pick is a long way from a sure bet.

Why would Ben do that when he can simply play out his contract and sign with whoever he wants without raping his new team of their 1st round pick?

I also don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that BA at least gets on the phone with the Steeler FO to talk turkey. We know about the BA/Ben mutual admiration club and if the pot is sweetened enough (next two first rounders, Cromartie, Honey Badger, etc.), who knows?

Not likely, but the Raiders over-paid for Carson Palmer and BA LOVES HIM SOME BEN. :)

It is pretty much beyond the realm of possibility. Palmer will have $10.5 Mil guaranteed if he's on the roster 5 days after the Super Bowl.

The new team would have some leverage because they can franchise him twice and have him for 3 years without any > 1 year dead money risks. What kind of signing bonus is he going to command in 2017? A nice signing bonus this offseason would go a long way toward making it a palatable situation. I'm not saying that we should do it, and I'm not saying that Ben would be thrilled to be moved. I'm just pointing out that a proven franchise QB with 2 rings would be attractive to a team in win-now mode, and identified Tampa as an example.

My off-season started Saturday at about 11:30 unfortunately. I'll need to rely on my friends from TSF to let me know who wins the Super Bowl. I didn't watch one minute of football or any highlights yesterday. Just wasn't in the mood.

I do not think it will, or should considering he had no running game with Bell out and the D not performing. Now if he had the same performance with Bell in the lineup and the D playing at the top of their game, then I would say it would.

:this!: I told everyone at work that at least I will get a lot of work done around the house now that I am done watching football for the season.

    I agree.

I think when it comes time to negotiate, when they're sitting at the table, Colbert, Tomlin, Rooney and company look across at Ben and his agent and say "We were going to give you 5 years at $20M/year, but after your performance against the Ravens in the Wild Card game, 4 years at $18M/yr is our best offer. Take it or leave it."

I have to chime in here. Mariota will be great for a decade wherever he goes. Trade Ben for Tampa's #1 (Mariota) would be a great deal for us. Not only would we get an amazing QB, the salary cap implications would really open up things for us. However I am also not sure Tampa would take it..

The loss effects Ben's contract in this sense:

if the Steelers had won vs Balt and had an improbable run to the SB, Ben's value would have gone up, and he'd be able to argue for a bigger contract. But since they lost, he won't be able to do that.

I dont think the loss makes Ben's value any less than it was last week, but it does keep it from going up.

    I think #7 likes that 102 number.With about
50 mill guaranteed. So much for us hoping to spread new (anticipated) cap money around.LOL gobble gobble. Please Steelers try not to overpay this situation or anything longer than 4years.

Mariotta looks like another Colin Kaepernick no thanks, most of these hot shot college QBs turn into busts in the NFL.
