First off I Like Tucker. Always have and think he has a future but our Depth is his downfall this year. PS for him this year.

Now that I've said that back to Ayers. He's quick and shifty which makes for a good slot WR and PR. At the Bottom of the roster it's all about ST. Can Ayers replace Hunter? How about DHB?

Too much time has been missed on his part.

Likely though he is destined for another team.

Since he has practice squad eligibility, I would say no. I don't believe he's been tried at gunner on coverage teams, so he wouldn't replace DHB.

He will be lost as soon as he is cut, someone will pick him up quickly. We are going to lose

a quality player. As coach cliche says, his arrow is pointing up. Should be kept over Hunter DHB and Coates.

He says he will turn down the chance to join the practice squad if offered.

I hear Dairy Queen is hiring.

That's emotion talking. When no other teams come clamoring for his services, he may feel differently.

If Im not mistaken he said that earlier in the week before cuts were made. He may have been alluding to the fact that it will be very hard to work his way onto this team.

Makes sense to me....Its not like the WR depth will suddenly favor him next year.....Kid wants a chance...he is not going to get it here

I don't know, MB is one stupid decision away from lifetime banishment and DHB can't be in the plans beyond this year can he?

Maybe...but if you are Ayers...do you want to gamble and find out? It was said he felt he would be out Eli last year if he had stayed healthy...then the Steelers drafted JuJu to take Eli's job this year....doesn't make me think he felt like he had a shot...and he probably didnt

Ayers was injured most of the pre-season, and thus was an extreme longshot to make the roster. He was a longshot to begin with. He has appeared in two games, targeted 13 times, made 6 catches for 53 yards and a TD, 2 rushes for minus 12 yards. He had one very good college season, and was a 7th round pick.

Only a team with no receiver talent at all would cut a guy they kept on their 53-man for Ayers. Teams generally sign guys they just cut to the practice squad. If each team were to sign 2 receivers to their practice squad, that still doesn't provide Ayers with much opportunity elsewhere, especially because he is generally an unknown quantity outside of the Steelers.

solid play for him would be to stay and wait for Eli to trip over his own feet again and get called up off the PS and then show that flash but then again what do I know I thought Eli was in a dog fight this year with Coates and Hamilton

There are really no unknown quanities let me rephrase that, shouldn't be in the information age we live in.
And if your a good GM and have good assistants working for you. If you are trying to improve your roster
they should be looking at everything.

Some people will always fly under the radar. There's probably alot of groupthink that goes on in the scouting community rather than people thinking out of the box.

You are safe if your opinion is similar to that of everyone else. Out of the box thinking can yield great success but it can also get you Tyson Alyalu in the Top 10.

    Beware.

Granted I had not heard of him until he showed up in camp but how did Terrel Watson, a highly productive runner who ran 4.49 at his pro day @ 6'1 236 and put the bar up 22 times not get a thought on draft day. California scouts have some explaining to do.

I agree. The counterpoint on Watson is that he bounced around several rosters before making his way here, so he may have legitimately not been a complete enough player at the time - or the bias continues during camps.

You may be right. Obviously Canaday snapped better.

Or its actually as simple as 1 mistake vs 0.

Not even sure if it exists but I'd be interested to know the snap counts during pre season Canaday vs Holba.

Id like to know what happened. I defended the pick at the time because I figured Holba would be manning the position for the next 10 years but now its completely ridiculous that they threw away a 6th rd draft pick on a LS who doesnt even make the team.
