I had a coworker whose family kept a large garden. They grew their own garlic. He would bring me some and tell me the different varieties. I never learned to tell the difference but I very much enjoyed the garlic.

I have been growing and Darwinian/selecting it for years and have it down to 4 varieties and they all basically taste like garlic

Although I’m trying a new hardneck variety this year called Chesnok Red apparently Martha’s favorite ;) and is supposed to be milder

Let us know. I believe my family who I get mine from grow two different kinds, although I don't know the name of them.

UofA Ag says you can grow both softneck and hardneck

Living in the sunshine state, I try to plant the stuff I like that grows well in the climate.

    Garlic is a Northern plant.

But tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants just love the sun.

The key is good soil. Buy that and it's hard to go wrong.

Garlic is not “a northern plant” that is not true

Gilroy the garlic capital of the world is in identical growing zones as most of Florida’s

Florida just elects to grow tomatoes etc. because of $/acre

There are two types of garlic, softneck that grows south in Florida or Gilroy

Hardneck grows north in PA NY MN Russia Romania

Owning farm property the thought of buying good soil cracks me up but if I lived in Florida it wouldn’t take me 2 days to start gardening and assuredly I would amend the soil

Peppers/tomato/eggplant don't like direct hot sun
they are undergrowth plants of origin
    nightshades

    Does anybody actually like eggplant

To me it’s just like eating a sponge

I freaking love it. My Grandfather used to make a dish that was kinda like lasagna made with eggplant, and it was delicious.

Someone was telling me a few days ago about their garden being small so they don't have much room for many things, and that they planted their tomatoes in the potatoes.

    You know what is crazy??
Even though I work in other people's gardens, and I have worked on farms where we have grown 1000s of acres of rice, 1000s of acres of soybeans, cotton, sunflower, milo, corn, peas, and so on, I myself have never had a garden
