Dobbs has all kinds of potential.
Jones on the other hand has shown potential too...potential to throw ints. To be fair though he has won a couple of games for us.

I'm guessing that we'll draft a QB and then the three of them battle it out to see who starts.

I would say O'Donnell is Jones ceiling but Im not sure he'd get there but we could definitely win with that if he does.

As for Dobbs accuracy, Jones wasnt terribly accurate in college either and another guy who broke onto the scene this year had bad accuracy, Deshaun Watson. So Im not ready to write Dobbs off because of that.

I would say LJ was pretty acurate in college he threw for 123 TDs with only 52 picks, he ranks number 6 all time for touchdowns out of a list of 253 QBs since 1956, he needs game starts to get back to that status, 4 games in 5 years is not a measuring stick for what he can do....

    Here is the list:

Being a Vols fan I’m pulling for him. I’ve seen every game he’s played in and some games he makes you say “Wow, did you see that?!?!” Then other games you’re like “WTF is he doing?!?!” But maybe with 2 or 3 years studying behind Ben, he will be a great NFL QB. He’s got the smarts and athletic ability. Can he put it all together? I hope so.

Going back to when Ben was drafted , did people on here and the other board think he was going to be the next franchise QB?
I think Ben just came out of nowhere and surprised everybody ?

Not that scouting reports are the be all end all but here are a couple:

I think Dobbs is superior to Landry in every way but one, Id like Dobbs to put some more meat on his frame. If hes going to be making plays with his legs, he'll need it.

it all comes down to money next year. if ben retires we have dead money. we are over the cap with way under 53 players for next year at this point. i just don't see a scenario that we could sign a guy like cousins and have bens dead money too.

now if a guy like kenum could be had cheaper than i would pull the trigger. it depends on how much he would sign for at least until bens money is off the table.

i believe LJ is 2nd in passing yards in college behind , you guessed it case kenum. 19,000 and jones 17,000. dobbs isn't close to either. not even with his run ability added.

we could also not have to push for a 1st round qb and possibly wait for one in the 2nd or 3rd this year to come in and compete. there are some pretty decent guys going to be in that range this year. yet again it all comes down to money next year.

Living in the south you see enough of SEC teams and Tennessee to say when watching Dobbs there were many plays that you would say WTF is he doing. We also were way ahead of the curve watching Jarvis Jones at Georgia to say "WTF are the Steelers doing taking him No. 1"

Jack Attack, Landry Jones will never, ever lead us to the Super Bowl like O'Donnell did. I could stomach watching O'Donnell play but not with dear in the head lights Jones. O'Donnell had much better accuracy and a quicker release.

Ben's replacement is not on the team yet.

    Crystal Ball:
Dobbs is not our future, he moves onto his life's work in science with the occasional trivia that he was once a Pittsburgh Steeler. Nothing against him, he's just a low risk temporary backup for the present behind Landry who knows the system.

We haven't seen our Future Franchise QB after Ben, not yet.

Anybody who wants to see Dobbs or LJ starting for the Steelers must really hate the Steelers.

Ben definitely didn’t come out of nowhere. He was the #11 overall pick, and when Rivers was drafted with the #4 pick the ESPN “draft gurus” were expecting Ben to be picked by the Giants. He blossomed earlier than expected, but he was drafted very high, and had franchise QB expectations.
