It's hard to gauge his success or failure from what we get to see but I think most of us can agree it was time to move on from Lake regardless......sometimes it's just times up. Porter may be trending in that direction as well....

Can agree with that. Sometimes you just need a new voice. Porter should definitely be next, I was disappointed they didn't seize the opportunity to grab Greene when they had the chance.

That is the problem.. People want to argue he is proven. He has played what 3 games and won 2 against the Browns .. That is not proven in my estimation. I predicted Landry gone and believe in the front office and more importantly the potential that Mason and Dobbs bring to this team

He started 5 games and won 3. All to the Browns. All pretty much meaningless games. The games that were meaningful that he started we lost.

I'll take a more talented QB over a less talented QB 7 days a week and twice on Sunday. Don't care how much experience they have which by the way, isn't that extensive in Landrys case.

If they cut Dobbs at the start of preseason I would have been like, ok, whatever, I don't agree but fine. At the end of preseason, I would have been so pissed if they chose Landry over him. He'll give them every bit of a chance to win a game as Landry would have, even more. Landry was very limited in what he could do.

I'd be curious if Ben had any input on the decision. I mean would Tomlin say Hey Ben we are leaning towards a youth movement keeping the young guys and letting Landry go, what are your feelings, can you stay healthy.

That’s the sad thing. In 5 years he showed no improvement, I mean he had what 4 picks last year preseason? Lol

Dobbs looks miles ahead year 2. Landry isn’t terrible, he’s just not any good.

    Agree.
If Dobbs wouldn’t have done as well this preseason and we hadn’t drafted Rudolph I would have been fine with Landry Jones.
I’ll admit last season I somewhat bought into the Jones experience hype, but after this preseason and really examining Jones’ experience it’s not really anything to hang your hat on.

First off, I admit I didn't read the whole thread, so this may have already been said. But my take is that the Steelers are in deep doo-doo if Ben goes down whether its Jones, rocket-boy wonder, or Mason, or any other backup the Steelers have had in the past decade under center.

That said, why wouldn't you keep a couple of unproven young guys with plenty of potential and higher ceilings than a goober who has proven over the past 5 years that he'll never be anything more than an average or below average backup QB? Nobody is licking their chops saying, OMG Landry Jones is on the wire, we gotta have him because he is the missing franchise QB piece for our superbowl championship team.

The Steelers need to be planning for the future without #7 and I think we all agree that the heir is not Jones. Maybe it isn't Dobbs or Rudolph either, but both of those guys are more likely to develop into a starting QB than Jones. Not to mention, if they absolutely needed a QB in the event of a catastrophe, Jones will just be sitting at home watching football from his couch on sundays anyways.

In the totally professional way in which he has carried himself since joining the team the first phone call Dobbs received five minutes after learning he had made the team was from Jones congratulating him and telling him if he every needed anything to just call him. That is the lesson I hope a lot of ppl take from this

Ohhhhhh now it makes sense! Couldn't understand why you were coming at me like that but you were the biggest Dobbs hater here and shouting the loudest about it. Going on and on about how he sucks and no way the Steelers keep him over Landry, face palming face palming face palming anyone who vouched for Dobbs. Should have kept your mouth shut six, you could have flown under the radar about being WRONG AGAIN! When they cut Landry you must have been banging the table, crying, snot bubble in your nose, "damn it, Blast owned me again! Why?!? Why?!? It's not FAAAIRR!" :lolol:

Thats how you bust someones balls, six. What you were doing was just acting like a punk. :taunt:

    Now eat your crow.

I don’t think anyone has said he wasn’t a great person. He seems to be one of the nicest guys around. But his QB skills were average. Nothing wrong with that. But when a team sees a chance to improve the position they have to take it. I don’t think anyone here wishes anything bad on Landry though.

Except for when I was the first one on this board calling for the Steelers to move on from LeBeau , the same with Lake I said he needed to go awhile back.
