Do you think Fields is thinking if I run for 2 TDs and throw for 3 TDs I could take this job

It would make for a great postgame interview if he gave himself up at the 1 rather than get a third rushing TD, just so he could throw it in on the next play.

I agree with this. But there are two reasons I wrote that protecting the football is first and foremost.

    1) Fields was a turnover machine in Chicago. For him to develop as a player the Steelers must break him of bad habits.

    2) Fields was a turnover machine in Chicago. If the Steelers want to win games this season, Fields can not be turnover prone. The offense just isn't equipped to rebound from mistakes and play from behind.

I am pulling for Fields to keep the job. It is in the Steelers best interest for him to develop. Russell Wilson is not going to open up the offense. He checks it down even more often than Fields does. I love the make up of this years defense. If the Steelers hit the 20 mark every week they are going to win a lot of games. I think down the road the offense has a better chance of being dynamic with Fields running it as opposed to Russ.

Odd makers are paying 1:160 on bets for Fields to get 3 TDS. I dont believe they all have to be rushing though. 10 bet gets you 1600

I just heard Fields speak for the first time

He seems like a fine young man

Unlike a guy we had who sounded like an idiot

I think for Fields it will be more about avoiding the bad.. Turnovers... That will keep him at the QB #1 spot.

With a week of practice with the 1s, I hope Fields and Frazier have their act together.

The most basic fundamental play should be the qb/ center exchange.

In light of the points the Steelers offense have scored for the past few years in the regular season.....

    2024: Zero TDs
    2023: 29 TDs
    2022: 28 TDs
2021: 33 TDs (went to 17 games this year)
2020: 47 TDs (last Big Ben year, he had 33 passing TDs, 15 games)
2019: 25 TDs (BB only played 2 games this year due to injury, 0 TD)
    2018: 51 TDs (34 by BB 16 games)
    2017: 41 TDs (28 by BB, 15 games)

Since we moved on from BB, we have averaged 1.73 TD per game. When BB played, we averaged 2.89 TD per game (not counting 2019 when BB was out). In 2019, we averaged 1.56 TD per game.

Our past history and the first game this year with Fields......I just don't see it happening. 5 TD in one game? A great game for us is probably going to be 3 TD total.

Fields would have to go past being on fire and straight to lava level to have a chance for the starting job over Wilson. While Fields was a decent game manager last week, he still got no touchdowns. He even failed on a crucial 4th down run try. As soon as Wilson is determined to be able to play, he is going into the game. They have to see if he is going to put points on the board or not. So far he has played about 5 plays this year and that was in pre season.

    exactly!

Tomlin will see what happens after another 60 mins of football, just like the rest of us!

Fields did nothing to win anything last week, that is for sure. he just did not turn the ball over.......but he almost did.

I don't think fields could throw for 3 TDs if they actually started in the end zone

But first 2 weeks on the road with the 2nd in a town that tried to bury him with the most overrated HC NFL history. This maybe the smartest coaching Tomlin has ever done....

Most overrated HC is across the sidelines from Tomlin. Its not Tomlin. He's 2nd

so Fields has not cemented anything as far as I am concerned. he does not suck - he just has not locked anything in by FAR.

stat line would again been much better without the penalties....I mean the 50 yards throw to Pickens that Jones had a penalty on that, how many QB can make this throw?....Very few

He just wants a running QB.

Well Wilson is hurt so that is making the decision for him. If Fields plays next week and we go 3-0 I’m not sure how you replace him at that point??
