Do you think Bud Dupree is going to have a new contract before the season?

All-Pro edge rushers make more than $9.2 million per year.

You said we hadn’t hit on a first round draft pick in a while. It doesn’t matter if it’s one or 100 you were wrong.

I thought Bud was offered a deal early in the offseason but turned it down. I could have sworn I read that he was offered a 3 year deal for a lower amount per season but he turned it down. There was a lot of rumors that if he signed a longer deal for less money he was going to be traded as he would have been more attractive at a low rate. I know I'm probably wrong but I did hear that rumor.

On average one in two draft picks in the first round work out long term. Steelers are usually picking from 20-32 so they have done ok if you look at it over the past decade.

Since 2010 Pouncey, DeCastro, Heyward, Shazier and Watt were all good / great picks in round 1. Jones and Burns were busts and Dupree has one year to prove himself. We don’t know about Bush or Edmunds yet.

Nobody hits on every single round 1 pick. In fairness there were significant doubts over the Jones and Burns picks at the time and the team has to take some blame there. Their record overall is very good though.

I remember during the week that Bud’s $9m became guaranteed he stated to a reporter that the Steelers has not approached him about a new contract.

Bud's production is a pretty small outlay compared to what starting EDGEs are producing these days.

I give a pass on rookies so it's took early to call Edwards a miss. The previous 1st rounder was Watt. So far that looks like a hit IMO. They did have a recent spell where we had 3 misses in 4 years but that's an anomaly looking at the Colbert drafts as a whole. Even with those 3 misses, two of them were low end starters. We always expect 1st rounders to be all pro players but realistically that's not going to happen every year. Especially when you're picking late in the 1st round consistently.

Like I said in my post, there would be no logic in Dupree accepting less than the 9m he was due, and no logic in the Steelers offering him more than that. Whether they made an offer or not, I suspect the outcome would always be the same.

This! This will prove to be another mistake as it already has. Now 9.2 to FINALLY motivate this mistake? Common. Hopefully Ola breaks out as he showed in pre season last year, stays healthy and has to get more playing time. They need a force opposite Watt. Dupree is NOT that!

This Dupree nonsense is about the same as the Tomlin complaining.
    Same tired ass repetitive complaining.
The same people who make the same statements over and over.
I agree Dupree has been a disappointment and isn’t worth 9.2 million, but jeez state your beef and get on to the next topic.

This^ Lets hope they at least go with a 4 man rotation, that probably being Ola. Give him some snaps so we know what we have and we don't have to go into next years draft not knowing. Dupree has been a disappointment and he's not worth the 9.2 mil. I would of like to have seen someone else get the chance last year. Did I mention he's been a disappointment and not worth 9.2 mil?

All right I will phrase it another way, Dud needs to step up & give us $9.2mil in productivity, I don't see it happening, ever.

Some people mentally are incapable of original thought. But hey, this is a friendly message board and we welcome both sides of the bell curve. Even those coming from deep left field. Heck, TTF even lets me hang around. ;)

I'm guessing he thinks Ola will take his job.

Be nice to see and I hope someone there could supplant and improve on his spot and production. That said, we'll see sparks from someone... Ola, Adams or one of the new boots and then watch Bud take the role and the arguement will then be that you can't sit a 9 million dollar man, or admit you missed on that pick, etc...
