Sorry, guys, but call me a pessimist.........Ben, even a healthy Ben, is old, beat up, and frankly has been declining rapidly in the last couple seasons. I'm not hopeful he'll come back and be what we all think he will. Is he better than any QB on the team now? Definitely. Is he still as great as he used to be? Can he play for another year or two? Does he really want to? <------- Those things I highly doubt.

Personally, I wish he would retire. I hate to see athletes "hang on" when they're past their prime, and then be remembered as someone who didn't know when to quit, rather than someone who had a HOF career.

I guess I don't get the "declining rapidly" part. He led the league in yardage in 2018. His numbers over the last 5 years (this year excluded) are comparable to his best years. Why does everyone seem to think he is done?

BBH beat me to it, and did a much better job.

Nice stats for Ben... but this was with AB and Bell in '16 and '17 and AB and healthy Conner in '18. I can't see Ben posting those kind of numbers with our current players at the skill positions. Snell and DJ have potential to be really good, but the rest of the RBs and WRs (JuJu, Wash, Samuels) are average at best... and Conner can't stay healthy.

I hope he stays. That way we could possibly get him because lawrence obviously will go 1.

Was thinking the same thing - will be very ironic if it plays out that way.

Yeah - I guess some folks need to look up the word "declining".

There really isn't any evidence to support that. Do you even know the details of Bradshaw's injury or Roethlisberger's? Also, treatment options available have changed dramatically in 35 years.

Will the Steelers have a line to Run the DAMN BALL?!!

Will Roethlisberger be willing to line up under the center? 3rd and 3 or less used to be a running down, but in today's Steelers football, 3rd and 1 or less is a shotgun formation more often than not. The Steelers need to think twice about giving Bud the money and pay one or two O-linemen that are physical enough to control the line of scrimmage and Run the DAMN BALL!! They better give TJ the money before signing Bud.

I just don’t see him going through all the conditioning he has to due for next season. Not going to happen. I hope we don’t see another Andrew Luck scenario in the Steelers organization.

Well we have see them show it, for me it is all about QB play. With Ben coming back I think you will see a difference in production and Juju, JW and DJ have talent imo

Theoretically you are not wrong, however we need a season or 2 of evidence to back up these claims. I know logically Ben would likely not put up those numbers without the best WR and bell but we are unsure of many variables in the future...

defense creates turnovers - ben scores more
defense forces more three and outs - more chances for ben to score
    injury heals up nicely
Dionte and washington take off, while juju rebounds
    draft a good RB, etc

    He can do worse though:

    - O line so bad ben forces turnovers or worse career ending injury
    - o line cant run block so ben has nobody open
    - Ben just doesnt have it anymore
    - Randy and Ben are mad at each other because Randy ate the last box of froot loops without replacing

They can't afford either of those guys, especially Winston. He isn't settling to be a backup with the Steelers, he's 25 and this is his first chance at free agency .

And a old washed up Peyton Manning won a Super Bowl with Denver, because they had a very good defense.

JuJu was better than average when he had AB on the other side .

The Steelers may sign a veteran QB, but it won't be Mariota, fans thinking he will take a low ball offer to be backup with the Steelers .

Ben will most likely be gone after 2020... and it's not a guarantee that he'll even be back to 100%, so it's not like Winston or Mariota would be riding the pine. I can see Ben missing some games or going on IR again. Steelers need to do whatever they can to get a veteran QB in. Restructure, cut.... they have to get some cap space or we're gonna see more of what we saw in 2019. Also, Rudolph missed several games because of injury.

Rudolph's injury was a serious one, too. It was more than a shoulder separation. There was actually some concern that it could lead to a punctured aorta. Combine that with the scary concussion and I am a little concerned about Rudolph's mental state going forward. He certainly didn't seem like the same player when he first returned from the concussion.
