Maybe in the past , but he used it quite a bit last year. I can only talk about Him here. Don't believe me , go look up the passing chart from last year.

Just for fun I ran 17-game projected stats for five QBs based on the results of games they started last year. Bear in mind there's some heavy extrapolation going on with some of these.

    1. 368/572 (64.4%)...3,896 yards...26 TD...26 INT...5.69 AY/A...80.4 PFR QBR...26 sacks...14 FUM (whether lost or not)

    2. 365/567 (64.3%)...3,780 yards...30 TD...8 INT...7.14 AY/A...95.7 PFR QBR...42 sacks...6 FUM

    3. 300/453 (66.3%)...3,134 yards...14 TD...3 INT...7.26 AY/A...93.9 PFR QBR...45 sacks...17 FUM

    4. 326/513 (63.6%)...3,731 yards...28 TD...6 INT...8.3 AY/A...101.4 PFR QBR...14 sacks...5 FUM

    5. 331/519 (63.7%)...3,836 yards...25 TD...8 INT...7.67 AY/A...95.6 PFR QBR...51 sacks...8 FUM

The QBs and the games from which the data was taken below.

    1. Rudolph (from his 11 starts in '24)
    2. Rodgers (from his last 9 starts)
    3. Fields (his 6 starts)
    4. Allen (his 16 starts)
    5. Wilson (his 11 starts)

You have to take them with a grain of salt given some of the varying/small sample sizes involved, but after hearing Rodgers improved as the year wore on I figured I'd give it a look.

    I’ve posted them :lolol:

I’m not saying he never threw there but it’s been mostly absent from this offense going back to Ben.

    IDK

I found this chart for the Coward in 2023 and if you divide the field into equal thirds there was a lot going on in the middle. If you account for the receivers lining up right and left rather than the middle this seems to be a fair distribution

    What am I missing

The problem I had with KP throwing mof was he couldn't hit crosses in the hands. Usually at their feet.

Add the three from 2022 and it’s not bad

Agreeably 2024 not as much but that seems to a function of not using Freiermuth

You need the individual game charts. Thats an entire season, deceptive. No one is claiming a single pass is never made over the MOF.

How many times has someone posted one of those charts after a game and the MOF is a ghost town.

I deliberately used an entire season that tells the whole truth. Individual games may be showing nothing but how the defense played that would be deceptive

Multiple people have claimed repeatedly that Tomlin was preventing quarterbacks from throwing to the middle of the field and that apparently was bull****.

    It was just Tomlin bashing

I’m going to stick with the FACTS I just presented

Not as much as you might think. A lot of teams avoid it, theres no denying that there is a higher risk of turnovers when you throw there. But if you did a team by team breakdown, I would not be surprised to find the Steelers throw there least of all.

When you look at the Steelers passing charts it’s amateur hour, throws from the LOS to 5 yards with clusters of sideline throws. They provide very little opportunity for chunk plays. It’s an offense that relies on being meticulous and able to convert 3rd downs at a high level. Basically asking your offense to be perfect.

As a bit of a lark, I watched all 544 of Rogers TD passes thinking "just how do the current Steelers Rec'rs matchup?"

Adams, Nelson, Cobb, Jones and Jennings caught the bulk.
    Driver, Lazard are next level.

    WR's catch a lot of TD's.
He seems to use the TE's to gain field positions... a lot of first downs.

We don't really have that class of WR's. I figure Metcalf to be in class of maybe Driver and Lazard but it is possible Rogers can tab into Metcalf's next level.
I do like Calvin Austin's potential. He's got good speed and surprisingly can come up with the 50/50 ball.
Roman Wilson better find his wheels, I've read some positive reviews so I am hoping he is as billed.
Robert Woods is 33 and penciled in as a starter. He has been productive as a Ram but stiil....... 33?

Overall, the OC Arthur Smith should be able to deploy a decent offense with Rogers at the helm.
I wonder how Washington (TE) responds, he is an interesting target. Overall TE's have to step it up a notch or two.

The run game should be interesting, very important.
Warren is a good rec'r and can break runs as he has done. Johnson and Gainwell remains to be seen what they can add. Johnson looks like a Harris and hopefully can get those tough yards.

    The mix is interesting.

Jeh and STD were right, Wilson threw there more than Pickett and Fields. Still almost void of any thing over 10 yards. Smith has even talked about how they need more chunk plays.

I dont know whos charts I posted last year, maybe Fields.

    Thank for that!

My biggest complain for years is the very few pass over 10 yards in the middle of the field...When this is middle of the field for under 5 yards, this is often a checkdown. For Wilson,I will gave a pass for Tomlin since it was a problem for him in Denver too...For Kenny and Fields,Tomlin did just not trust them enough...I think it will change with Rodgers since he has so few interceptions in his career so I think Tomlin will have the trust in him to protect the ball

I can’t imagine bringing in a guy like Rodgers and then trying to constrain him. I dont see that working like they did with Wilson towards the end of the season.

What year was that from, 2023? It's got Johnson, Pickens and Freiermuth, so I'm figuring that it is.

But if so, it doesn't do much to dispute what others are saying - Freiermuth saw the fewest targets of his career that year (47). Total passing attempts eclipsed 500. That's not exactly a screaming endorsement for trying much in that 10-yard, middle-of-field window.

I showed the first 3 games of Wilson last year, and it was quite a bit of throwing over the middle.
