Bags means right before the Ravens playoff game Tomlin said that it was a "pack your bags" game. Meaning the loser packed their bags and were done for the year. This is my guess anyway.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has said that he takes responsibility for the team's recent playoff failures, stating that the "baggage" of those failures is his to carry, not the players'.

That is a hilarious rationale by the Head Coach. Tomlin hasn't carried anything, he had an entire team of valet luggage carriers in mainstream media to lug those heavy playoff bags for years.

That is starting to change. Maybe Tomlin is a crappy tipper.

Gotta disagree with the “isn’t his fault” bit. After being the HC of this franchise for 18 years - I think he’s as much a part of any of the situations both pos/neg as anybody.

Tomlin has as much influence over the roster as probably any coach in the league but they are trying to transition from a HOF QB to whatever comes next. When Ben retired it was worth taking a swing for Kenny Pickett, it didn’t work so they moved on. They tried the Fields / Wilson experiment, also didn’t work so they’ve moved on again, probably to Rodger’s as a bridge. They haven’t really had a clear opportunity to get their next guy, maybe it’ll come next year, or even this year if somebody falls to them.

What do you feel they should have done to plan for the post Ben era? I am not seeing a clear opportune they blew tbh.

Perhaps passing on Hurts for Claypol was the best opportunity?

Actually, he was the 2nd..... don't know if you're old enough to remember the Joe Walton fiasco in 1990 - 1991

I'm not sure if Walton was fired or just replaced when Cowher came in. I think he stayed on until Noll retired at the end of 1991.
