Why did Butler wait until he was gone to say something, we don't know all the details of him retiring maybe he was nudged out.

Tomlin was the DB coach, Butler was the DC in Arkansas in 1998. That was the only year they coached with each other until Steelers.

Butler joined Steelers in 2003 as LB coach under Lebeau. Tomlin came in 2006 as HC.

Looking back at Tomlin's resume, he only had 1 year experience as DC, and then jumped to HC for Steelers. Kind of explains his cluelessness and "using gut instinct" approach to the game.
