Did we knowingly throw the season away?

Actually just shows how bad the other Qbs in our Division are. Now there is really only one that is really good, and two OK Qbs. Also they must make hard decisions on them soon. LoL. I Love it.

Agreed, but We can look at it this way....some of the future rebuild is actually on the team now. Well a little bit of it is .

I would go all out to get an OC that is more than just a “let’s see what we’ve got” kind of guy like Canada. We’re going to have a new rookie QB in the house either next season or the season after, and we should ensure that we have an OC who isn’t going to earn a firing after the QB’s first season. Get a good guy now to help develop the QB for those critical first 2-3 years. I haven’t done any research on who will be available, so I can’t say right now who that guy should be. I do feel sure that it’s not Canada.

Creed is obviously a beast, definitely regret passing on him.

Was he the guy who had the medical red flags or was that someone else?

As an offensive coordinator? Great player. Great guy. Maybe a great leader. Is he an X’s and O’s wiz who can develop a productive scheme, and game plan it on a weekly basis to best attack the opponent we’re up against? I don’t know.

We'd have the best blocking WR's in the NFL. Route running and hands would also be a priority. DJ and Claypool would need to get better or sit. Wasn't Hines a former QB? I have little to no doubt that he would be an upgrade over Matt Canada.

    Hey francobettis and Everyone.

Tough loss. We hung in there and even when down by three touchdowns late in the third quarter, we failed to stop them on third and long. Make that stop, score and we are only down two touchdowns with a bit over a quarter to play. However, we could not keep trading TDs with them.

There are numerous variables that led to this season’s play of mediocrity. For me, as I played football for a short some time in my competitive career, I did not have an “Appreciation” as great as I do now for the “Complexity” of the Offensive Line. Sure, I realize that the Offense all “Starts up Front” but if I really, really did not fully grasp that concept, I do now after witnessing these season unfold.

Look, this was a completely, fully and 100% revamped Offensive Line. FIVE BRAND NEW PLAYERS. It consisted of two rookies in which one had no business playing Center. That was a HUGE MISTAKE by this coaching staff. In addition, the intricacy of five men needing to gel together to form a solidified “Wall of Protection” is a difficult, difficult task.

Yes, Ben has lost some of his mobility but it has been that way for several years now and he was way more successful than what we saw this season. He has had a great deal of “familiarity” and “success” with the Skilled-Position players on this Offense in past seasons. As I stated before, we have some terrific talent on the Offense:

    • Claypool (Unfortunately, regressed this year but IMO but still very good. Must dedicate himself to improving his craft)

    • Washington (Hot and cold at times. Great when on.)

    • JuJu (Injury hurt him, thus the Offense overall. Major part of the Offense's Heart and Soul.)

    • D. Johnson (Coming into his own. Not sure if a True #1 but he is ours.)

    • Gentry (I really like how he started to come around. Him and Muth could become a very good Tight End tandem.)

    Added

    • Najee (The future is very bright.)

    • Freiremuth (Same as Najee.)

This Offense can be very good with the players above. Very good. However, with inadequate O-Line protection, this becomes an "all for not" scenario as the saying goes.

Is it time for Ben to go? Maybe. Personally, IMO, if we had a MUCH-IMPROVED O-Line, and I mean MUCH-IMPROVED, this Offense could be very successful even with Ben. Again, what are our options? The replacement, IMO, is not on this roster. Again, IMO, give Ben a solid O-Line and he would be more than serviceable. Like I stated above, it all “Starts up Front”.

A one eyed cat would be an upgrade over Canada.

Yep, I was way wrong thinking all 3 teams had good young QB's and we'd be bottom feeders for awhile. I firmly believe the Bengals are about to rule the roost and rule for awhile. Burrow and Mahomes are about to become the top tier guys if those two numnuts in the NFC join Ben in retirement:)

Sidebar: How frigging long is Brady staying?? Insane for sure. Guys 44. I guess Rodgers has a good 6 years if he's thinking like Brady. If that is true even though the Steelers never ever ever ever would sign him I'd sure like it and I'm not a fan of his.

    Don’t forget about Allen.

And I think Wilson has tons of potential but he plays for the Jets so it will probably go unrealized.

Trey Smith is the rookie that had blood clots in college. IMO, he was a surefire 1st rounder but the medical concerns dropped him all the way to 6th. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and is out to prove himself and earn what he's worth. As far as I'm concerned, he was the steal of the draft as a day 1 starter at RG.

Then no one is to be held accountable for anything on offense?

Agree, but each team has the same cap and how they manage the cap varies. We we're in deeper cap hell than most because of decisions made by the Steeler Organization for whatever reasons they did. I believe we kicked the can down the road, pushing money here and there, until it was ante up time. Then came the unexpected Covid decrease in the cap, again, what everyone had to live by. We gambled and lost a lot of players that we needed. That's on us, not the actual "cap" per se. I believe that everything this team succeeds or fails at is caused by decisions made within the organization. I'll change my mind if someone can tell what we were subjected to that no other team was. They had no money at the start of free agency to keep those guys, the league reduced the cap by 16 million, I was glad they didn't give Hilton 6 million a year too much for a slot CB. They had some cap space once they released DeCastro, and did some restructures.

He has no track record whatsoever in developing QBs He's worked with WR's his entire coaching career. The most important thing for the next OC is to develop our next QB.

Just posted in the other thread but Ken Dorsey is who I would pursue. He worked with Newton in Carolina as a QB coach when they went to the Super Bowl, he's been with Buffalo the last 3 years as QB coach and passing game coordinator and we've all seen how much Josh Allen improved from his rookie year.

What We don't want is a OC that can only coach one specific system. We need one that can adapt, adjust, and evolve.
    Not..... I got 2 have only this type X, y, and z.
