Wow man, really? That was Cowher's M.O. He didn't put up with self-infliccted mistakes. period. Especially from young players. He ALWAYS went with the veteran over the inexperienced guys.

so because of the small 25% sample size of losses he is considered a coach who can't beat inferior teams...i give you the 75% winning percentage against teams with losing records .... you cannot just take the losses without accounting for the wins...sorry doesnt work that way

And the hallmark of a good coach is not only how his teams perform against good teams but also he they perform against inferior teams. Look at Belichick's teams. When they play a weaker team they go for the jugular early and keep pouring it on in an attempt to demoralize them so they don't have any semblance of hope. They assert their dominance. We always seem to play down to the competition.

Not making any factual statements.??? Okay never mind. The Steelers have been
prepared for every game this year. Coach T had them fired up and ready to play against every inferior team they've faced this year. They were ready for the Chargers at home last week. It doesn't matter that the Panthers went to San Diego and beat them by 30+ points yesterday. Tomlin had the team ready to go against the Raiders, Browns, Chargers and Chiefs. I realize they lost to 3 of those teams and had a -10 point differential it doesn't matter, Coach T had them well prepared. Their game plan was awesome. Forget that the Bengals beat those teams by a combined +53 points. That was just an anomaly. I won't even talk about the Tebow debacle and the five game losing streak in 2009. Those things aren't factually valid anyway so why bother?!

It took Bill Cowher 14 years to win a Super Bowl. Chuck Noll was with the team for how many years? He led the best team in football for 6 of those years, but his last 10? Why no Super Bowls in those years?

My point is that the knee-jerk reaction is to have the "fire-the-coach" mentality, rather than looking at the big picture. The Rooneys are good at looking at the big picture, so we keep coaches for long periods of time. When it is time for Tomlin to go, we can look back on his career and make assessments on his performance overall. Right now, he's a coach with an incredible winning percentage - 1 Super Bowl win, 2 Super Bowl appearances, multiple playoff appearances. He ain't going anywhere, folks - whether or not you think it's because he used Cowher's players or whomever. The Steelers record under his leadership is just too good.

To clarify, I'm not saying we should fire Coach Tomlin. But he needs to re-evaluate some of his methodologies. They're not working. The team comes out flat and seemingly unprepared way more often than it should. Tomlin better be thankful he has had a QB like Ben and a DC like DL because he's not the kind of take charge, lead the forces and develop a gameplan coach that can have successs without an abundance of talent around him.

Quality coaches overcome and adapt to injuries bt drafting and development of players, remember all NFL teams have them so your point has no logic, if so all NFL teams would be fighting to reach .500 like the Steelers.
