Did the Steelers get a steal in the draft in Cory Trice?

I hope Trice makes the 53 man squad, going forward the Steelers will have two 6'3 CBs in Porter Jr. and Trice, these are the type of guys who could eventually matchup with Tee Higgins and Jamar Chase. In Thursday's OTA session Trice had 3 PBUs, and an interception .

I think the majority of our picks were steals

 

Trice's injury history scared off a lot of teams but when he is still available in the 7th round the potential when he is healthy is too much to pass up.

 

From what I've read:
When JPJr. talks, he talks about Patrick Peterson and how big of a help he's been adjusting to the NFL.
When Cory Trice talks, he talks about Minkah Fitzpatrick and how big a help he's been adjusting to the NFL.

I think we're in good hands. 2024 JPJr and Trice at corner, Peterson at safety/slot corner, Minkah at Safety. Draft is 1st round ILB, 2nd round slot corner/safety.

 

I'm not going to day he's a steal until games are played. But man he's made an impression so far.

 

i said from the start that this corner class was very deep this year. i don't think we are the only team that hit on corners later in the draft. trice is very capable. keeping them all is the problem. how many will we keep? peterson, wallace, sullivan, JPJ, trice. pierre? dawson? that's six and maybe seven. minkah, kazee, neal. riley? killebrew? that's 10 and maybe 12.

holcomb, roberts, robinson, muse. TJ, highsmith, herbig, golden. heyward, ogunjobi, benton, leal, fehoko, watt? that's 24, 25, 26 right there. maybe a spot or two open and maybe not. do you risk putting them on the PS?

I think Pierre, Norwood and Killebrew are potential cuts, Riley might have a chance to stick as a depth guy.

The Purdue cover corner has competed in OTAs, picking off two passes in one drive to end the practice, per Noah Strackbein of Sports Illustrated.


Strackbein noted the offense argued the first interception was pass interference on the physical Trice, but he came back and got a more clean interception the second time.

Either way, the 6'3", 206-pound is showing off the best parts of his scouting report. Bleacher Report's Cory Giddings noted Trice, "has good ball skills to locate and track the ball, while showing to be a great reactive defender when playing the ball."

 

You've got Watt listed twice. I can't see Dawson or Pierre making that team ahead of Trice. That just doesn't make sense. I'm guessing Dawson and either Riley, Killebrew, or Pierre are cut. One thing we need to see is what some of those guys can do on special teams. Killebrew is purely a special teams guy. Pierre's primary value is there, too.

 

I totally agree with this. I'm super hyped about this draft class, but until I see them actually play a really game....I try staying cautiously optimistic.

 

They all look good until they get beat. Then we get pissed at them.

 

I know it's a different position but Minkah pretty much owned JaMaar Chase but it would be nice to get some CB help there also.

On paper I think the Steelers had one of the best drafts in decades. Time to go prove it on the field though.

 

TJ watt and armon watts. dawson was the other slot corner in OTA's besides sullivan. may be the guy they keep in case of injury. pierre plays outside. killebrew is a good STeamer. riley could be that safety backup as well. will be interesting to see what the combo's are during the preseason. who gets some extra time with starters.

 

Got it. You spelled it Watt, not Watts, so I thought you meant T.J.

I know who Dawson is and that they talked him up as an option at slot corner, mostly as a way to try to silence critics who think they left himself too thin in the slot. I know the skill sets aren't the same, but you don't give up a talent like Trice to keep a scrub like Dawson.

Pickens tore an ACL in college, plus lost two games due to shoulder injury in year before that. Hopefully, better NFL coaching and medical staff helps. though it seems ever year, NFL teams can lose top pick rookies and star starters in training camp.

 

I used to absolutely hate Ike Taylor and then I started love his play.

Steelers fans in general like to try and run players out of town too soon sometimes.
