Did Pickett change the play?

All you are asking Tomlin is "Was the play an audible? The announcers had said that Kenny told them during their interviews that if he ever sees Pickens lined up one on one with someone that is where he is going to throw the ball to.


I don't think Kenny would go off the rails like Ben and actually change the play in the huddle.

 

Guys were open quick. It’s a combination of the line being inconsistent. When your line is letting guys get pressure, it hard for a a young QB to trust the pocket we’ve. When there is one.

Canada’s plays had guys open today, Pickett didn't see them.

 

I think most will realize this is not a very good 3-2 team but 3-2 we are. I guess all we can hope for now is to get healthy and improve over the bye although to your point not sure how much of that is possible with this current coaching staff. You can’t count on teams to gift wrap you wins often the way the Ravens did yesterday.

 

This is also a product of Canada’s play calling. Too often he is very predictable with first and second down runs where the D is loaded in the box to stop it. We need more play action early and down the field shots to keep Ds honest.

It looked that way on TV a few times. Kenny picked the wrong guy about 3x on 5-8 yard passes that if he had chose the other guy it looked more open from the tv angle. Also another couple times looked like he delivered it a split second late. Overall he looked more decisive but that's not saying much as the offense still didn't do much. The up tempo offense looked better just as it did in all of Canada's tenure.

I hate the wr screen play typically but I haven't seen much if any of that play. Need some early completions for him to get in rhythm.

Can't wait for DJ to be back.

 

Off topic: I love 99% of Pittsburgh sport gear but that Steeler emblem on Canada's shirt is not a good look. Too many colors.

 

Confirmed. According to Ron Cook, Jaylen Warren said Kenny changed the play at the line when he saw single coverage.

From my eyes we saw a more comfortable QB yesterday. The line was more consistent. I still saw Cole get man-handled and missing downfield assignments.

I think Kenny audibled a few times but the one he should have gone away from was Najees run off center near the goal line late. They had everyone in the box.

 

exactly but he won't get credit for it. they even said this same thing when it happened on the telecast. when pickett saw them man up on pickens they would go to him. it was built in. pickett did some good things and pickett did some of the same bad things in this game. when he gets to his second or third read and has to start to move, he never looks anywhere else besides that read and the ball goes there as he runs out of time. locked on to that read while the defender closes. we have to remember pickett is still learning.

 

The only thing he changed was the protection. There was nothing he did at the line that could have changed the play.

Trai Essex just went on the radio (the 3rd “expert” to say it) that the only thing he did was change the protection.

IF that video is legit, some think it’s edited, Canada was probably listening to someone on the sideline about the 2 pt conversion.

If you watch the video again, you can see the reactions of others in the booth as the play unfolded. The video shows the others standing up watching intently as the ball was in the air. Then you see the reactions of everyone else the second the ball was caught. This video was shown live on tv. There's no way it could've been edited.

Otherwise I'd consider the possibility of Canada being deep in thought over what to call for a 2 point conversion. After all, he doesn't have a lot of experience with what to do after a TD.

all good things. the call by kfp. having that installed for him to make that call. the OC remaining calm to get ready for the 2 point conversion. the offense knowing what was coming when called. the defense not knowing what was coming. why try to put a bad spin on any part of this? pure hatred.

And I actually had the same exact reaction to that play myself. I was more laughing that we finally did something right on O than my normal elated cheering.

Pitt, stop running the gun until Kenny finds his feet. It should take five games, Pitt should win all five with Kenny starting directly behind center. The Ravens game can (barely) count as Win One of Five...some of us remember life with Tom Landry.
