It's to avoid the big play. Except it didn't work on that long td pass where we had no one back in coverage to make a tackle.

Not only did we give up a long touchdown to the same guy, not only did Payton run for a first down (re-read that a few times for the full effect), not only did we give up multiple third and long conversions.....

We don't even know if DL got cake for his birthday.

    I hope he did pre-game.

Man, I will not give anyone on the defense a pass or make an excuse for them. It was a sorry effort. The offense gave them plenty of rest by controling the clock for most of the game and they coun't stop Manning when they needed to. If they make two stops we win the game.

    Just a sorry effort!

The blitzing scheme doesn't work anymore. Other teams know what they are going to do. Woodley did nothing, and Timmons did nothing. How about Timmons got out ran by the 36 year old Manning who got a first down on the run. Sorry effort.

Somebody please tell me why they can't get any pressure on the QB?

And please don't tell me that Harrison will make a difference!

Timmons should hand back his paycheck...his jersey was probably nice and clean after the game was over. He gets paid too much to not have an impact. Foote was making more plays out there.

I can't blame Lebeau. The talent it just not there. Our front 3 defensive line is not getting it done. They can't hold their ground. They were at least giving up 3-4 yards runs. They hardly ever stuffed a runner.

Re: Steelers organization I blame you spend some money

I blame the Steelers organization spend some money and get some free agents get a corner back that can cover I'm not talking about Ike to me he's just average at best! Oline COLON again with the false starts, Leg I can take him on I'm 50 years he can't block period! This team brags about we build within the draft maybe its time to buy free agents because drafting personnel will take 5 years average to learn the scheme. Steelers fans deserve better than this... spend some money I'm tired of Leg's, Colon blow, Mundy,Lewis sorry secondary! Jerry Jones learn his lesson he spend money to get good players! Kraft the same way.

Why were there no adjustments made to stop that damn shotgun draw play they ran? How many times did the D give up 5-10 yards on just that play?

O.K. Let me first say that I am a huge Dick LeBeau fan. However, as I was tossing and turning trying to get to sleep after that complete defensive collapse last night, I started to wonder. Has the game caught up to him? I know that our defense is aging. I hear the talking heads all the time saying it and I can look at the ages of the defensive team. However, there is enough youth that they should still be able to get it done. LeBeau's "Zone Blitz" and other schemes have been around so long with little change that I'm wondering if the OCs in the league haven't figured them out and know how to plan for them. I really don't think Peyton Manning was anything special last night an that's what scares me. Yes - he played well, but part of the reason he played so well is that he seemed absolutely 100% ready for everything our defense tried to offer him.

LeBeau is a genius - but maybe he's just out of new ideas.

LeBeau isn't a "genius". You seen how much of a "genius" he was when was coaching the Bungals. He doesn't have the players he once did and the better ones he does have are older and not hungry anymore. The biggest factor is that LeBeau is just getting out coached, or in other words, guessing wrong more than he is guessing right. The Bronco's defense came out looking like they wanted to kill someone. Our defense looked like they were making a tv commercial. Its time Steeler fans face reality now and stop living in the past. As far as Big Ben goes last night, describe his performance in one word? My choice would be "choke". Remember, this is suppose to be an "elite" QB making 100 mill a year. See my sig. You seen an "elite" QB
last night the only problem was he was wearing an orange jersey! Just my 2 cents.

I can tell you why, we don't have any pass rushers on defense other than Woodley. If him and Harrison doesn't get to the qb we are toasted.
Carter just isn't strong enough to hold the edge. I think we should use Kiesel as an OLB until Harrison comes back.
If we don't blitz we won't get any presser. Timmons and Foote just can't push any lineman. I said during the draft we should of pick Hightower (Alabama).
Our d-lineman don't know how to rush the passer. If we had ONE lineman in the form of (Freeney, Mathis, Dumervil, Ware, Tuck, Osi, Pierre-Paul) we would be golden.
Bruce Smith played in a 3-4 and he was a beast at rushing the passer.

This team needs one big rebuild and I'm 71 and running out of time for us to be as good as we were back in the day.

Hood is a #1 pick. Heyward is a #1 pick and Hampton is #1 pick.

Aaron Smith was 7th round, Von Offholfen(sp) maybe 5 round or undrafted and Kiesel 6th round.

    I don't understand.

The front three should be Hood, McClendon and Heyward. The linebackers should be Woodley, Foote, Timmons and KEISEL.

I think it might be Lebeau's time to go

I want to start by saying I love LeBeau, and thought I'd never want to see him go, and this is not some overreaction to last night's game... This is not a "sky is falling" post.

Over the year's it's been obvious that Dick struggles against accurate pocket passers, and at one time Peyton and Brady were really the only guys like that in the league... But now there's Brady, Peyton, Eli, Rodgers, Brees, Stafford, Luck... There's more and more guys that can pick apart a defense through the air.

I don't blame Lebeau completely. I think part of the problem is guys like Casey, Harrison, Clark, Ike etc are slowing down, and the next man up like Ziggy, Heyward, Lewis, etc haven't stepped up yet.

LeBeau's spot in the HOF is well deserved, he was the architect of the defense that's made us so dominant for the past 20 or so years but it's a new NFL. It's time for something new. I think that could very well happen, because when Keith Butler suddenly had a change of heart of staying, I have a feeling the FO told him his time was soon.

Whether we stick with the 3-4 is another debate. I wouldn't necessarily be opposted to going to a cover 2. I think our strength in the future will be our DL. The one guy that throws a wrench in that is Woodley, he could play DE but it might be wasting some of his talent of playing in space (which he does well for a guy his size). However, I think Timmons could easily transition to play ILB or OLB in a 4-3, and Spence probably fits a 4-3 system better... and I believe this is Harrison's last season with the team.

Lebeau's schemes worked great when we had the type of players who could make that happen. We don't have that same kind of player anymore, by choice or by forced circumstances. I thank Dick for all he's given to the team over the years, but sometimes you have to admit when something no longer works. It's not failure. It's just adaptation. I'm not arguing to get rid of Lebeau by any means. I just think he suffers from the same mentality the rest of the team often does- "well, that's just how we've always done it".

I rewinded it and watched a few times and I just didn't see any holding. Carter was coming at Manning and was cleanly blocked. If it was Taylor on the outside, his receiver had the inside on him and blocked him cleanly. I didn't see any other players coming from the middle of the field to get over there get held and as Thomas was blazing down the field our guys were chasing him with no Broncos holding them. I wanted to see it, but I didn't. What I saw was a very well executed and blocked play.

I agree. I said this a few years ago. The scheme he runs now is obsolete. I don't know if it's talent or what. I would think it would be better because we have a better secondary then in years past so we can afford to gamble a little bit more on our blitzes. But I see no different in the blitzes then in the last two years. I hope if Keith Butler takes over he doesn't run some of the tired blitz schemes I've seen so far.

When lloyd, and Greene were our outside linebackers we had different blitzes. You would never see the same one in a game or at least not all the time. Now, its the same sending Foote and Timmons up the middle. Chris Carter is not the answer at outside linebacker. I think we should use Brett Keisel in his spot.

I take it back...just watched a highlight of it and Mundy clearly gets his jersey pulled taking him off the angle he had...he may have been able to effect the play to get Thomas tackled.

    Dick LeBeau needs to go

Yes he's a HoF but the game has passed him by lately whenever he goes against a elite qb the defense gets exposed. If your secondary is weak you cover it up by maximum pressure put the qb on the ground. The Giants have a average secondary but they have a good pass rush I know they play a 4/3 defense but still they put alot of pressure on the qb. Also why is Hampton starting over McClendon at least he has shown some ability to get to the qb.

Its not LeBeau, they just don't have the horses to get it done anymore.
