this could be the MISSING LINK to getting back to a TOP 5 defense - maybe even #1 or 2, and getting that SWAGGER BACK that we have not had in 15 years.

"I WAS NOT HIRED FOR MY DISPOSITION" kind of attitude.

hope we can get it done.

Now - not sure what is in his head and if Tomlin can corral him.

The steelers are not going to trade for him. It would require too much in order to land him. That's a non starter

White may be looking for a new deal as he enters the final year of his contract. Spotrac's market value tool estimates he's in line for a four-year, $80,418,000 deal that carries an AAV of $20.1 million. That hypothetical contract would surpass Roquan Smith of the Baltimore Ravens' average per year of $20 million, making White the highest-paid inside linebacker in the NFL. If the Buccaneers eventually resign to trading him, here are a few landing spots for the athletic, 25-year-old linebacker.

That is way out of the steelers wheelhouse

Seems like this was just discussed in another Devin White thread a couple of days ago. I would absolutely not do this. He’s a good ILB, but overrated IMO, and not worth what would probably need to be a record breaking LB contract to make him happy. I wouldn’t give up both draft capital and a big chunk of cap space for him.

    A magnificent fail.
Players like this rarely live up to the value.
    Hard Pass.

Smith got $20 mil a year after making 2nd team all pro twice and first team all pro once before the trade (add another first team to that now).
Devin White has 1 2nd team. How can he demand more?

No he had one good season. With out that he averaged 4 sacks. Dudes a punk as well.

I rather take Bush back before getting him.

i hear what you all are saying.

    PASS

Sounds good to me, don't need a PUNK here, that is for sure.

I don't watch him much, but in that playoff / SB run a couple of years ago, he seemed dominant. With our other talent, he could make a difference

Personally I wanted him instead of Bush the Bust but he was taken at 5 and we traded up to get ugh...

Came in on fire but faded after the 2020 Super Bowl.

We have our ILBers. At least the curse of the Jacksonville players are gone.

Rather them get a FA receiver.

I have no idea. But that seems to be his going rate. We will not trade for him

He’s better than the other Devin but both failed to live up to the hype.

I’d rather try and grab one of the top guys in this draft.

    Nah…

He will find out he’s not as valued as he thinks he is. Then he’s just another disgruntled player who will probably play and act like it with effort going forward. He got his ring and from here out he’s gonna be about cashing checks.

I get players, especially non QB’s trying to maximize their deals, but when guys are ready to split to go anywhere where more money is rather than “being a part of something” then I just feel like the effort won’t be there.

I might be living in fantasy land or some by-gone-era, but I’m with Tomlin on the volunteers not hostages thing. I want guys to come and feel like they are in a locker room with a Band of Brothers mentality and trying to do something special - for more than just one glorious season. I want them to have a legacy, an era, a dynasty.

I want another Steele Curtain, Blitzburgh, or “special” unnamed defense like our run with the 5th and 6th Super Bowls and they tight core crew. Troy once said they were special.

Devin White is better than Devin Bush. I really like Devin White his Rookie year to year 3 but then his play dropped off a lot last year and he gave up and had a lot of bad effort plays.

Not worth the trade of draft capital and then also to take on a hefty contract too much Risk for Reward factor in my opinion.

Yeah, he strikes me a player who doesn’t believe. So, his play showed it. Now the Bucs are showing him we are going to pay for what WE believe you’ve shown recently and going forward, not the more distant past.

yes - we all did, White went like 5 or 6 that year, i think?

I'd like a FA receiver too, a veteran guy. Wanted Thielen from the Vikes, oh well....

Same way Kyler Murray can command $160M. There’s always a sucker somewhere willing to break the bank

Not worth the trade capital, and certainly not worth the salary he would want.

He makes big plays at times because he is a sensational athlete but he has struggled down to down in coverage since he came in to the league. None of the main analytics sites rate this guy. PFF, Football Outsiders (excellent site) and others have all highlighted this. He can demand a trade but I think he may be humbled by the lack of market for his services.

On a more general note Matt Williamson and Dale Lolley discussed the LB situation in the league recently on their show. The bust rate on first round off-ball LB’s over the past decade is incredible. It’s so bad that you almost shouldn’t draft them in the first round and just take swings in the middle of the draft each year.

Paying him the contract he wants and giving up the picks would leave us with less 'other' talent. I know its a different position, but I would gather my pennies and try and keep Highsmith before trading away half our top picks (or more) to land him.

Pass on Devin White, I have heard some in the media criticize his play especially in coverage.

I think the Steelers could use resources to build this team without trading and using significant resources for one player.

I wouldn't be in the mix attempting to trade for him at this time. I think the Steelers are in a position where they should use their picks to get talent and depth

The Steelers defense was the most expensive last season at over 100 million, I doubt they're looking to add another high priced player, they need to add some cheap rookies to the roster.

Yes it would not surprise me at all if the first three picks are all on defence. They are getting old on that side of the ball and also lost a couple of starters in free agency.

Improvement on offence may have to come from guys like KP, Moore and Pickens taking a step forward
