One of the big problems I think is that people have praised and blown so much smoke up the Rooneys butts over the years that they think they're smarter than every other team. There's at least one team that proves that isn't true. Maybe try to emulate them (minus the cheating). They've gotten lucky to only have 3 HCs in the last however many years and be mostly successful. But this notion that it's this genius blueprint has always been absurd and completely arbitrary. It's definitely a glass half empty point of view to always think well if we fire Tomlin we'll do worse. If you keep a coach around long enough, chances are you'll eventually have success it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. No magic there. But if you have the team to do it and not seizing the opportunity to win it all when it's there what are you waiting for?

If I was an NFL owner, I'd want to make my team the best through all means possible. And if I screwed up by hiring the wrong coach I'd accept it and try to learn from my mistake. The Rooneys should be embarrassed by the constant underperformance and lack of discipline of this team but apparently they want more of it.

The problem, as I see it, is that people are blinded by this "Never had a losing season" fact that keeps getting posted around here in MT's defense. That's great, if all you're looking for in a coach/team is to have great regular seasons. The fact of the matter is, he's just about .500 in the playoffs (8-7), and absolutely owned by one team in particular. That's not exactly what I would expect if I were an NFL owner.
