smart thing would be out for the season
look at pouncey he can't keep healthy i know he didn't play but he still could have pushed it too hard before super bowl
DD needs to shut it down and study his ass off and rehab for next year.

NFL Network is saying that it IS a torn ACL & MCL, and doesn't mention his kneecap.

Adam Schefter is reporting a dislocated kneecap, torn mcl and some damage to the patellar tendon, but the ACL is intact. Not sure about his return this season at this point.

    It'll be alright.

Everyone is always quick to rag on the Steelers O-line but they did win 12 games last year!!!!!

    Get well soon Dave D.

Re: DeCastro's Injury Not End of World

I will come to the defense of Max Starks. The guy just came back for his first action since Jan. with no OTAs or training camp and I thought did quite well. Last year they cut him in favor of Jonathan Scott and how did that work for us? Starks came off the couch and solidified our left tackle position. If it wasn't for Starks, we would be in a world of hurt last year and this year as everyone put their eggs in the "mike adams" basket. Now, Starks is not the top tier left tackle but he did have some outstanding moments last year by keeping Terrell Suggs in check. And did such a great job against Suggs he tried the other side of the line because Starks wasn't giving him nothing. Just imagine if someone else would of claim Starks last year as Arizona and now the Colts are taking our players or this year. We would have had Jonathan Scott as our staring left tackle last year and Mike Adams this year.

It seems now the majority are saying the ACL is ok...and its just the other 3 things. So i think as of now i'm going to side with that as whats wrong with him...which is better but still sucks.

Yes, that would be better, so I hope that's the case. Although a busted patella tendon or whatever sounds horrible, I suppose anything's better than an ACL tear.

NFL Network clearly stated ACL & MCL tear and out for the season. However, the last time they ran that was 40 minutes ago. Since then they've ignored it and only mentioned the Colts and Seahawks news. Perhaps they are re-checking their sources.

from what i see they are saying miss half the season.. that would be great... learn for 8 games.. play 8 games.. then ready for the playoffs but fresh from only 8 games ? that would be the best case

I THINK IT'S OFFICIAL. ACL IS NOT TORN!

NFL Network was the last source claiming that he tore it and would be out for the season. They have changed the scroll on the bottom of their screen, and it now says that he tore his MCL and dislocated his knee. They didn't say this was from a source, they said these were the MRI results. Seems like it's pretty official. This is great news. Don't IR him just yet. Maybe sometime in November, December, or even beyond, he can return. If Foster is doing well, let David backup. He'll get to practice, he could get game experience. This is great news for his development, our depth later in the year, and possibly our starting OL this year.

Edit: he hasn't had the MRI yet, so I must have misread that. Even so, it's looking like his ACL is safe.

Decastro missing the season, well there isnt a bright side to that. We need him to gain experience and he can't do that on the bench. I hope he can return and get some game time experience this season, but I do not want to jepordize his career by brining him back to early. We are super bowl contenders now and we will be next year and the year after. We are the Pittsburgh Steelers we don't rebuild we reload. I want Decastro to be part of that now and later. That said I am hoping he returns this season!

wasn't Adams a guard in college? If so, might that be a possibility. Could at least give him some more reps in the immediate future.

So with DeCastro's injury...are we back to square one from last year? Foster? who? One thing for sure...if we expect DeCastro to be as good as we think he can be...he needs plenty of time to heal and rehab...not rush to get back on field.

I think they should place him on IR so he can rehab and get bigger and stronger. I think the pressure from the Bills DT just crushed him.

All this love and positive stuff is fine, but wrong. In the 1st QTR our OL was dominated. Ben had no time and there was zero holes for the RBs. I saw colon pull and totally pancake a guy which was great but also saw him slow and late in pulling to the right and he got pushed back several times in pass defense. Gilbert looks worst this year than last and is just being pushed all over the place. So bad he's already been pushed and rolled up injurying TWO of his teammates.

Foster is back-up material servicable in a pinch but if he has to be our starter look for the same results we had last year which is one of the worst OL in the NFL.

Starks and Pouncey are our best OLmen and I think colon is only gonna get better & quicker. We really needed DeCastro at RG and this is gonna hurt. Foster & Gilbert are liabilites. I'm hoping Gilbert at least gets back to lasts years form.

Hurt? Yes. He's our first round draft choice for crying out loud. But devastate? Nah. We'll get by and win a lot of games. Adams will only get better and upgrades the line as long as he stays healthy. DeCastro is a non-issue now. We're going to win a lot of ballgames with the men we have. Then when he returns - it'll only get better.

Re: DeCastro's Injury Not End of World

I only saw a few parts too (what NFL Network would show me), but I saw the play you're talking about. Max chose to block the blitzing inside linebacker instead of the outside one, probably figuring the inside guy had a shorter distance to Ben. That was wrong, because even though being inside moves you closer to the QB, that dude was like 3 yards off the LOS. So I agree he should have blocked Barnett. However, it's worth noting that there was a RB in the backfield (Rainey) who appeared to have the responsibility of picking up any blitzes. He looked around, didn't see anyone (somehow) and then ran out for a pass. Regardless of who Max blocked, Rainey should have picked up the other guy. I think most of the blame for that play falls on him.

I'm very curious about how Max did, and I'll try to go through every play on Monday.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/08/26/source-decastro-out-3-5-months/

"Per a source with knowledge of the situation" (whatever that's worth), DeCastro will be out 3-5 months. At first I heard 8 or more weeks, which was more hopeful. If it was 8-10 weeks I save him a seat. If he'll be out 14 or 17 weeks, I guess we might as well go ahead and IR him. 3 months to the day from the injury would be week 12, Cleveland. I'd be willing to save a spot for that. 4 months would be 12/23, against Cincy. Keeping a roster spot that long is a stretch for any rookie. 5 months would be the Super Bowl. He might be in Rod Woodson / Aaron Smith territory someday, but it ain't gonna be this year.

I wonder with this injury and Adams slow development, does this change our draft stragedy for next year.
