Can someone explain to me why Decastro & Spence haven't signed yet? I thought the new Rookie Wage Scale slotted players salaries based on pick. Gotta be more to it than that.

Not sure about Spence, but there was an article on one message board/blog about guarenteed money. Last year, the players picked up to #21 in the draft were guarenteed every cent of their first contract, up through the 4th year. Players picked in the first round from 22 to 32 only had their contracts guarenteed through the 3rd season. This year, it remains to be seen where the guarenteed cut off is going to be. DeCastro wont want to set the line. If he signs for only three guarenteed years, every one after him can expect the same. But he doesn't want to sign for three years if Hightower or others after him sign for 4. So this year its those guys in the 22 to 26 or 27 range that are going to be the longer contract negotiations.
Spence may be holding out for more guarenteed money, I don't know. But how big your contract is isn't the important thing any more. Its how much of that contract you are guarenteed to receive.

Right on about DeCastro...its just a waiting game for the players around him to start signing. Spence I dont think its an issue...who knows...it could just an issue of meeting up and getting it done who knows. Its probably not about the money...as with the rookie wage scale there really isnt a whole lot of room for negotiations (especially for the rounds after the 1st).

Trade em for draft picks, if they wont sign on the dotted line then sign them up for a train ride out of town.
This clearly proves they are bad people, this clearly proves they put themselves above the team. If they do sign and have success they'll just want a new contract down the line probably for more money (which is something no player is worth). They probably have ideas and thoughts in their minds that they may try to share with people and probably even the media, we don't need that kind of thing here, thinking is for pussies. Yes sir, trade these 2 one trick ponies for........well, just something else.....draft picks!!! That's it trade them for picks now... or else they'll keep acting human.

Dont even try to compare this to the wallace situation imo if wallace signs the tender he will get a deal a lot quicker. Remember when hines held out then came to camp and what within a week had a new deal. Its the steelers way and that what make them good year in and year out. No one player is bigger then the steelers
