You wont take heat from me. Ben is trying to redeem himself in the media and because of this he is talking alot. Personally I feel like he is that kid in school that use to squeal on other kids in the class. hahha

Agreed. Ben shut up.. There is nothing gained from talking about a players development. Coaches should be the only team representatives that are even allowed to talk about players and even then I stil dont like it. I like Tomlins approach actually. He never really gives you anything other then mantra which is regurgitated week in and week out lol

If we're going to criticize Ben, lets criticize him for things he actually said. Ben never said that the physical part is giving DeCastro the most problems, what he said was, using DeCastro's words, "The mental part I got. The physical part is a lot tougher. These guys are really good." Small difference, but it does change the meaning.
And when you put "getting his lunch handed to him" in quotation marks, you imply that Ben said it. Which he didn't.

    Sorry, old English teacher here.

Make that 3 diehard. Makes me wonder why some of you even turn on sports news if all you are interested in is mundane untruthful answers.

Anyway, non story, nothing to see here folks, move along.

I most certainly don't turn on or listen to news for Bens injury updates nor talk of players abilities or lack there of. I prefer to watch for myself or read TTF updates from camp. I don't even mind the sensationalistic media approach because its just conjecture and opinion but when you repeat what another player says to you and confides in your then to me thats a problem.

It's just an opinion so yeah lets move on :) Nothing to see her folks. Move along haha

Yup we most certainly did :) It's all good . I am sure if its a problem Ben will be approached by CT and told he is disclosing too much information.

The amount of time it took me to work out this thread wasn't about Dennis Dixon was, frankly, embarrassing.

Me too. Like the first 10 times I read DD, I thought, "Why are people so interested in-- oh." Maybe we should let those initials breathe a bit before reassigning them to avoid confusion.

My question is, who assigns these nicknames? I've heard BR for Ben, AB for Brown, JH for Harrison, DD for Dixon and DeCastro, LT for anyone with those initials... Why not other random guys?

I understand why some guys would not benefit from this, like Starks, Redman, Troy, or especially Bryant McFadden when he was here, or anyone with a W because that's two extra syllables, but why not MP for Pouncey, or JD for Dwyer? Why do some random guys get it and others don't?

I'm not complaining or being sarcastic, I'm really just wondering.

As good as he is and as much as been made of DD, of course he will struggle at times this year. The NFL defensive linemen are so much better! Still nonetheless, our line will be much better.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I've always heard since DAY ONE Mean Joe was a beast! Teammate or not he would beat you down if you didn't bring it all the time.

    That he's struggling isn't shocking...

What I like is he recognizes that he's not the biggest bully on the block anymore... The talk of him being the best guard in football hasn't gone to his head. Everything I've heard about the kid tells me he's ready to work, and he's realizing he needs to work a lot to dominate like he did in college.

Also another way to look at this is that our Dline is NOT struggling. Yes I know that he's just a rookie but still I get pumped about our D pushing ANYONE around. I just wonder if Ben would've came out and said "DeCastro is owning our D on every play" would we then be saying that he threw the D under the bus?

I think him struggling with the physicality of it isn't really surprising. Watching his college film, his ultimate strength is really speed. Speed pulling, and speed getting to the second level just like Pouncey.

I still don't see a problem with what Ben said or where DeCastro is in his development. Maybe I'm missing something.

Back to the other DD, my guess is he is still spending a lot of time thinking and not reacting. He apparently is a pretty smart guy and this is typical of rookies, and more so the smarter they are. They want to do the job right, so they think rather than react. Once he gets the thinking part turned into reaction, he will not only be fine, he could very well become very good.

Not only do the words you said not mean the same thing as what Ben said, the word "struggling" doesn't even mean the same thing as the words Ben said. Especially since he was basically assigning David a choice between two options: mental and physical. Diehardsteel, who is a better player: Ziggy Hood or Bruce Davis? When you answer Ziggy, I'll be sure to plaster DIEHARDSTEEL NOW IN LOVE WITH ZIGGY HOOD everywhere. That's not unlike asking DeCastro which is tougher for him, the mental or physical aspect and then writing an article titled DECASTRO STRUGGLING PHYSICALLY. Maybe he is a teensy bit, but that label makes it sound like we should be wondering how close to Sean Mahan he is.

I don't mean to say he's not struggling at all; I'm sure he is. But there's a massive difference between struggling the way a prospect like him should struggle, and struggling the way a player that's not good enough struggles. I'm about a million percent positive he's the former.

Snack, first of all I think you should calm down - remember your high blood pressure. Second, I never used the word "struggle" in reference to what Ben said about DeCastro. That was someone else that used that word. I merely quoted the article where Ben confided to a sports writer that DD was having issues with the physicality of the game, and all I was trying to say is Ben should shut the f#@% up and not throw his team mate under the bus, like he did with a certain new offensive coordinator earlier this year. There, are we good?

    Well said. :goodpost:

Huh? Ben threw his teammate under the bus? Ben threw Haley under the bus? Saying he threw DeCastro under the bus is pretty exaggerated and saying he threw Haley under the bus is, well...I'm at a loss on that one actually.
