The more I think about it the more I agree with this, my only thought would be if we don't get Weddle or another FA we are either going with Golden or a rookie. I am not sure about that especially depending what we do at CB. My feeling is sign a vet S and draft a guy at both S and CB and ease then in during the year.

Also I think we are down to 4 mil of cap space so if Weddle is holding out for money he can't use us we just don't have the space. Wondering if we have checked in on Abdullah, to see how much he wants and to put pressure on Weddle.....it works both ways!

Reports here on the West Coast are saying the Raiders are working on Weddle big time. They desperately want him. Remember, the last time the Raiders safety position was really legit was Ronnie Lott. hahahahhahahaha

Damn. Was hoping the other safety they signed had taken them out of the running.

He was born and raised in california, why would he leave to play in cold weather in Pitt and have to fly coast to coast to visit his folks in cali?????

They didn't sign a safety; they signed a cornerback. Sean Smith. Raiders have been hurting at safety for years.

But four teams are after Weddle: Ravens, Us, Cowboys, and I forget who the 4th team is.

Because players do it all the time.

I know but it was the 3rd big signing by them, was hoping they were done.

Raiders have sooo much money under the cap; Their not done. I expect the Raiders to win that division next year if they take that defense up another notch.

Most players prefer to play at home if possible, Keenan Lewis left for his home team when he signed with the saints, the raiders have the inside track on signing weddle, he will probably sign up next week...

Well if we miss out on Weddle do we look at Nelson, Thurmond, Abdullah or Jefferson? Or are we going to focus on the draft class? I hope we do both......

I think Butler may look at Golson, Grant and believe he has what he needs and, now Golden, a favorite of mine at safety. I think you draft a DB and we go from there. Think Weddle fell off our radar

Let me say this is just my opinion but my problem with all this talk of Grant and Golson moving to S is this. We are looking to strengthen S and how would putting 2 guys there that play a different position work out, one that basically is still a rookie himself? I am not saying it couldn't work I am just presenting the point, seeing how we are looking at being a solid 3 year run team I feel we need experience.

For the record no disrespect to Golden but he is nothing more IMO, then depth and ST. He can spot start but he isn't the answer at S, if so he would have been signed some where for a whole lot more. Also I feel no matter what, we need to draft at least one S in this draft, I like this class a lot. I also want a DB in this class. If we sign a vet S that could give us some playing room for Golden, Grant, Golson and a draft pick to learn and develop. jmo

At this point Weddle is going to be too expensive. We should move on.

Maybe I misslead you. Golden is the only one I said was a safety. I know the other 2 are CB's if you had a choice who would you want at CB? Golson, Grant or Blake?

Oh ok in your post you said Butler may look at Golson or Grant so I took that as you wanted to move them. Either way if we lose out on Weddle what do you feel we should do go with Golden and draft a guy or look at one of the guys I mentioned and draft a guy to learn. I feel Golden was signed not to be a start, obviously from the contract he signed so I just don't think he is our answer.

It don't look like we are gonna get a vet at CB so I really would like to sign a vet at S, I still want to draft a S as well as a CB. Why I feel that way is if we draft a CB then we are gonna still need help at S so let's bring a vet in to strengthen the back end, right?

I agree. He's playing 4 teams against each other which only drives up the price. I don't want to play that game. If he can't see that we are on the verge of a Super Bowl and doesn't want to be part of that, then he's not too bright and therefore, I don't want anyone in my secondary that isn't bright.

I think adding a veteran like Nelson and then drafting a safety is the way to go. If Nelson still has some game left; at one time, he had a nose for the football and that is what we need back there.

I am saying I think Golden is good enough to start. Seems like every time I saw him in a game he was all around the game. I was saying Golson and Grant could be starters. Our team (mostly Dick LeBeau) seemed to sit on D players for a few years and they could have started. Take Golden the safety, he is on his second contract now and hardly saw the field

I say Raiders or Dallas for the nice environment(home) and Steelers would be for the chance at a ring immediately

Just read that Weddle is leaning towards the Patriots. So much for the "west coast/stay at home." theory. He's visiting the Patriots today.

After Brady gets his 4 game suspension, and their 0-4, I want to ask Weddle, " how you enjoying another losing season? You went all the way across country just to lose some more."
