is visiting Pittsburgh today. There is our big FA CB. A player that is nothing more than depth. Woo hoo.

Davon House was my 3rd round draft target in 2011, he was my #1 free agent target for the Steelers in 2014... He was terrible last year in Jacksonville. I'm still buying.

He's plays LCB and Nickel, which would be ideal (as Burns plays RCB). He'd be able to compete with both Cockrell and Gay for their starting jobs.

It's not a huge upgrade signing, but would provide a prime aged veteran to compete and push the group.

He had zero passes defended last year. Zero. PFF gave him a grade in the 40s. It's bad when Jaguar fans are happy you are gone.

House was a nice 3rd corner in Green Bay, and played ok in 2015 with the Jags. I haven't dug into scheme vs. performance over his career - I.e. When he played well vs. poorly was he in press man, off man, Cover 2, Cover 3, etc. However, if we're interested I'm assuming that our guys will have assessed what he does well vs. what we want to do, and decided that he could be a fit.

he was benched last year... he only played about 25% of the snaps on defense.
PFF is right... he was terrible last year
PFF was also right when they graded him in the top 20 in his final year in GB.

Yes exactly my point. He was benched on a horrible jaguars team. Also there are many reports that say he is not a slot CB. We are decent on the outside we need someone in the slot.

He definitely struggled in the move to Off Man/Cover 3 in the Bradley system. I watched the Houston/Jacksonville game early in the season, and he got torched by Hopkins in the 4th quarter... Gus teaches the Corners to watch/read the QB in cover 3. That's a risky proposition (especially when the pass rush isn't helping you). Some guys, like Richard Sherman are elite in this nature, but it's not a skill that's easily taught. House couldn't do it, and got beat bad in those situations (allowing the WR to get behind him with ease.

House can play man press, and shadow routes well. He can play zone, and has the athletics to break out routes and break up plays.

I think the coaches have to ask him what made his 2016 season a disaster after having a great 2015 season? It wasn't all about injuries that sunk his season last year there has to be more to it than that, they need to dig to find out what went on.........

    No.
I'm saying he struggled with specific requirements in a particular type of Cover 3.
Gus Bradley's Cover 3 and the Pittsburgh Steelers Cover 3 are very different.

But you're probably right... the Steelers are bringing in a CB for a visit who doesn't fit well in their scheme

Wait... you're telling me that Cover 3 is more complex than "if you get confused, cover the guy going deep?"

    You seem confused.
Boykin had a chronic injury issue
    Gilbert had effort issues.

These are guys they brought in for relatively cheap, who fit the scheme, but had other warts that the team felt was worth trying to work with. Neither worked out. Such is life.

    Neither represents your argument.

He had solid stats in 2015. I'd take him.

Boykin injury didn't come out until he couldn't cut it with the panthers. Neither fit with what we did yet they were brought in.

He was a beast 2015. Had 23 pass defenses.

And Brandon Boykin what is the number one rated slot corner in the league the year before we got him. There is no reason for his Drop in play last year and that is a huge red flag.

Correct. Why would the panthers sign him if they knew he had a career threatening injury?

There is an unconfirmed report of a Steelers coach saying he had hip problem. If it was he was simply injured he would have never seen the field yet he did. Sparingly but he still played.

House may not be the best signing in the world , but he is a better CB than Ross and he would be a upgrade on the outside..Even if he didn't take the place of Ross we still need more DB'S and his price should be fairly cheap..I hope he checks out..

Brandon Boykin's degenerative hip problem was known. Carnell Lake confirmed that the reason Philly was willing to move him was because of this... meaning, the Steelers KNEW the issue existed. It's not the first time a team has taken a low risk chance on a player with injury problems.

Regardless... Boykin doesn't represent the argument you were trying to make. He fit the Steelers scheme.

So, in fact, you are wrong on 2 fronts. Want to try again?

    What I am saying:
Boykin was brought in because he fit the scheme and filled a need (slot corner).
Boykin didn't play, because he's hip issue worsened and he wasn't the same player

    What you are saying:
Boykin was brought in even though he didn't fit the scheme
Boykin didn't play, because he didn't fit the scheme

Who sounds logical, and who sounds... dumb?
