Oh that's right, it was pass blocking that he was tearing it up, thanks for clarifying

Legursky at FB can do one thing (how well he can even do that is debatable). That's lead blocking. Will Johnson at fullback can do many things. He can take a hand off, go out for a pass, pass protect, or lead block. And he's a legitimate threat in all those areas. In order to justify using someone out of position and erasing other dimensions from our own offense, Legursky would have to be substantially better than Johnson at lead blocking.

And although I've only seen each of them lead block a handful of times, I have not seen any evidence of that.

I agree with this for the most part....However I have seen Big Doug plow some guys at the GL and ib short yardage...So I do agree that having a guy that can do it all is better than just a blocker where the sheme is concerned, but Big Doug could have a nice role as a situational FB.....On the GL and in short yardage he could be a beast it also might really open up a PA pass to someone else,as all are thinking here comes Bronco .....Part of the Chess match that was not played last night.....

I've seen him make way, way, way, way too many mistakes on the line, including when it comes to pulling, which is a lot like being a lead blocker, to trust him in that role. I don't trust him. As for him actually lining up at FB, there obviously isn't that much tape of it, and I think most of it's from two years ago. But I don't remember being blown away by him, or even impressed at all. Mostly just crashing into the line.

Will Johnson or the rookie TE drafted are the choices, maybe Doug sometimes. I missed the game; any looks of the rookie TE drafted? I thought he did some lead blocking in college.

Mac, I was holding out as I felt like I was worth more than the tender offer - (more like TTF type numbers). I still have until week 10 to show up in order to achieve UFA. I won't sign the tender until I have to...... :beathorse:

Unfortunate injury, but it could open the door for someone else. I need to see more of Will Johnson.

In the RB/FB department, I still think it would be a mistake to keep John Clay off the 53. Obviously, Redman, Dwyer & Rainey are making the team. I still need to see more of Batch, but even if he isn't much of a runner he can stay in and pass protect. Then we still have to decide what to do when Mendenhall comes back. This is the deepest I can ever remember our stable of RBs being.

I said this last year and I will say it again this year.....Why cant Clay be our FB???...He is 6-1 250....Im guessing he is a smart guy who could learn the blocking assignments in short order and could catch passes. If it keeps him on the 53 man roster Im sure he would be all for it.

I don't think its completely out of the question. He just really has to upgrade his blocking skills, as its not something he has alot of experience with. He threw a really nice block on Jerod Johnson's rollout. Clay can be very useful to this team, O'm hoping the coaches can find a way for him to succeed.

i said that awhile ago, about a guy that wants to make the team should really learn this. clay was my first thought. i like the kid myself. we have 4-5 guys that could be featured backs if it came down to it. i know no other team is as deep as we are with RB's.

Not a bad idea, the guy had some good plays but was just clueless as to when to call them!

As for our FB spot, I don't really think it's a big deal. Seems like Will Johnson is much more athletic and has a good mentality for the position, and with the new offense everyone to some extent is starting fresh, so not much of a veteran benefit to keeping DJ.
