I don't think we had the additional picks to move up like the Patsies.

Pats had a first rounder to dangle....Steelers would have had to use 2nd this year..and probably 1st next year.

Just got home from work and see we drafted DeCastro.

I'm no draft expert, nor big into college football, but I liked Hightower and wanted him...

Are you freaking kidding me? How did DeCastro fall that far?!?!?! I never even put him on my wish list because short of trading way up, there was no way he'd be there.

So, yeah. I wanted Hightower. But WOW, I'm even more pleasantly surprised. Let's be honest, our #1 position of need is OL. And we got the best one. :praying:

Love it! An OG that was predicted to go in the 9-15 range! That 2nd rounder is gonna be an interesting pick ....

all I can say is we put the pick in pretty fast bet they had him rated 18-20 and were jumping up and down about it :)
I was sure the bengals wanted him and when they traded I knew we were getting him

One of the things they were saying on TV is where does Hightower even play, they already have Mayo. I know they run a 3-4, but their defense is very varied? Hightower is a pure thumper so where does that leave him in all the sub packages? The only thing I can think of is they move him to a pass rushing OLB?

This is the best pick we've made in the first round in the since 2005 (Miller).

If it is possible, I think DeCosta will be a better pro than Alan Faneca. He is THAT good in my opinion and will be the guard every other in the league is compared to in about 4-5 years.

I am as excited about this pick as I have been since Roethlisberger. Incredible he was there. Unbelievable.

    Found this about him.

David DeCastro was the best offensive guard in college football this past year, but if asked to, he can play every position on the offensive line.

DeCastro has practiced at center before, snapping the ball to Andrew Luck. In addition to that, he has the size and discipline to also play offensive tackle if needed.

In addition to his exceptional size and base strength, DeCastro also has exceptional eyes, instincts and awareness, which allows him to see plays developing and hold off opposing defenders. These attributes would allow him to play at other spots on the O-line, if called upon.

Make no mistake about it, this kid is the most polished offensive guard in the past 10 years.

Because the Pat had the ammo to do it they had multiple first, second and third round picks. The Steelers dont/didnt...the move back up to pick #25 it would have cost a majority of the rest of their picks.

This! I have nothing against Hightower...but I did not want him. They have enough high round/big money LBs...they can find another ILB (if they dont believe in Sly) in the later rounds or next year. If they passed on DeCastro I would have questioned their scouting/etc/etc.

Not who I wanted (Hightower) but I can definitely live with the best guard in the draft.

LOVE IT. Once again as echoes by others, I had ZERO expectations he would be available at #24. I wanted Hightower, but am even happier to get Decastro. We stood pat and he fell into our laps. Kudos to Colbert for Rushing to the stage with this pick.

WARDISMVP - This pick was for YOU!

I think Maylock said his only down fall is going up against the larger players?

Decastro can stand to add more power, but what young rookie interior linemen doesn't. 1 full year with the strength coach and look out!

Dude is a fricken technician with a mean streak.

The Pats only had to move up from #31 to #25. They were able to do that by giving up a 4th. We would have had to move up from #56 to #25. That would have cost us at least our 3rd rounder this year, and our 2nd rounder next year (plus Pick #56 of course). Too steep of a price. I like Hightower, but not that much.

Screw Mayock. He was slobbering over New England drafting Chandler Jones and Minnesota drafting Harrison Smith. Both of those picks are some of the biggest reaches in the first round.

Chandler Jones isn't better than his brother. And Harrison Smith is the next coming of Zbakowski who only is a 1st round pick because all the other safties in this class sucked.

For christ's sake, Mayock said as the card was being delivered we should take Cordy Glenn. Over DeCastro??? Are you kidding me?

Mayock probably simply didn't realize that DeCastro was still available!!!! Cool for us.
