Just thought it was too early to get a guard here.

He is one of those guys that fell. We can still get a very good ILB in later rounds.

Yes but this guy was the best guard in the draft, hard to believe he fell this far. At least Hightower went to New England and not the Ravens.

Got to like DeCastro....but the second round is going to be littered with Guards.....I might be tempted to take back to back guards at this point

True. Al least we got a Guard that can start day 1. Don't get me wrong, I like the pick just thought there were plenty of guards in this draft.

Woohoo! Couldn't be more happy about this pick. And the bonus is that the rats didn't get Hightower.

Decastro is a stud 10 times the value of Hightower....I am glad the Patriots got him, heck we can turn Redman loose on him in the passing game....Hightower will make Red look like a scat back in the passing game...

Never thought he would be there. Maybe another faneca. I am thrilled. I watch bama play every week. I thought Hightower would be the pick, but worried about his coverage skills. We got one of the best olineman in this draft at 24. Are you kidding me

Hightower is good but with Woodley, Harrison, Carter, Sylvester, Worilds, Ivy , Foote (yeah I know) and whoever else is drafted we will be OK. In the new NFL we stay in the nickel over 1/2 the time anyway.

Anyone not happy with this pick is crazy. All the draft sites are saying the Steelers just made the best pick in the draft so far. We have the best center guard combo in the league.

Pats got Hightower at pick 25 so he was still on the board at 24 when Steelers went DeCastro. Not sure what you are saying here.

I think I go back to back guards at this point....and the Steelers should be set on the line...with no more excuses to be had about bad line play.

    Gilbert 2nd round
    Silatolu/Osemele/Brooks/Washington 2nd
    Pouncey 1st
    Decastro 1st
    Colon 4th

From CBS pre-draft! Just read this then imagine him with Pouncey... number one OG falling to us is amazing! Finally some protection

Some NFL scouts believe Stanford guard David DeCastro may be an even better interior line prospect than Maurkice Pouncey of Florida, who was drafted 18th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010 and made the Pro Bowl as a rookie. Coaches and teammates believe DeCastro's serious attitude and penchant for perfection were as important as his innate physical abilities in making him as good as he is. "He arrives angry and focused and expects everybody else to be the same," said Stanford Coach David Shaw. "If he thinks something needs to be said, he says it and when he speaks the players listen." "He is so serious he sometimes thinks a high five after
a touchdown is too frivolous because it might break concentration," offered Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. "But the person he is hardest on is himself."
